Silhouette has a mac option for the software. It comes with free software and you can upgrade to the Designer version for somewhere around $50 and use your own shapes. The free version you can do titles and stuff but you have to use their shapes. I browsed their store yesterday and they have loads of things to purchase for around $0.99 each. not too bad. Better than buying a whole cart for just 1 image.
I have always used SCAL with my cricut. Makes it worth my money in the long run so I just upgraded to SCAL 3 to use with my cameo. So far its pretty good. I have used it to make a few cuts. Its a little faster and so far the cuts are cleaner than with the cricut. It's also a little noiser. But not a big deal.
I plan on keeping my cricut to use with my 30 carts- mostly disney because I like the ease of it already being there and ready to go. And I also like being able to use 2 machines at one time.
So its actually just a personal choice. Are you planning on creating your own designs? which cameo is better for. or do you want pre-made ready anytime cart based designs- cricut. You can buy them from cameo but it has to be hooked to the computer at all times. Cricut does stand alone.
