Cricut Paper Piecing Question

So I'm making a paper piecing with the Cricut. I cut all the pieces in their respective colors, cut a base, then I have to outline all the pieces in black ink, right? ALL the pieces?
This is my first REAL character I've made using my new Cricut E., so please forgive the silly questions.

I don't know, but I'm glad you asked, I haven't attempted much with my cricut.

I have cut characters with my cricut and have never outlined them with ink. I just run the pieces through my xyron and pices together on the base. But maybe I have done something wrong all along? Hopefully someone else who knows more can chime in and we can find out for sure together!

Nope. Are you talking about the Mickey and Friends cuts? If so, you want your base to always be black paper - then all the things that are black in the picture will be black on your paper piecing. The pieces don't usually touch each other - that is how you get the little black lines between the colors - it's just the base showing through - no ink needed.

Is that what you meant?

Yep, I think that's what I was asking. The little books that come with them always tell you to "ink the edges." That's what had me confusalled

Really? I never noticed that. I have never outlined any cricut pieces and I don't think the ones I received in swaps were outlined either. When I hand make a paper piecing I do usually ink the edges, but that is because I can't cut as perfectly as the cricut and I need the ink to cover up that fact!

I've never inked the sides either. Some of those pieces are just way to small! I just use the suggested base color, and they always look fine.

Always black for the Disney cartridges - although someone said they did tinkerbell in white and it worked out better. It seems counterintuitive to do Donald in black, since he doesn't really have much black on him, but you still want to use black.

I have done tons of the Cricut characters, and I have never outlined them before. Those folks above me are correct in saying to do your base image in black. That way the parts (such as Mickey's ears) will be black. You can also do a shadow piece (I ususally do these in black also). This will help keep your piece firm. When you do the base piece, with all of the slashes and cuts in it showing where to place the items, sometimes they can be flimsy.
