Is it worth it if I only use my cricut at home? I have not gone to crops is almost 2 years.

I pretty much cut directly from the carts with no editing. I do own SCAL and Design Studio.

I would like to meld letter together and can't quite get design studio to work right.

THinking this would clean up my scrapbooking table if I didn't have to have the carts readily available.

Give me your opinion.

Thanks

I would say no, you don't need it. *IF* they make an update which makes it work like a jukebox, I would highly recommend it. You can design in CDS and import into the Gypsy, but it doesn't hide contours and I find I have a hard time making things work in the Gypsy (I do like CDS, finally).

I guess it depends on how you scrap. I only had the baby bug before I got my G and I feel like my scrapping has improved by leaps and bounds. I love being able to create something and save it when the idea hits, not just when I am scrapping. Paper piecing is also so much easier! Do you know of anyone that has one that you could play with before you buy it?

I only use my Cricut at home, but I love my Gypsy. I cannot get CDS to work for me at all, but I find it's very easy to create things in the Gypsy. It makes the cutting out easier too since I can put all the different colors I need on the mat and then just place them accordingly on the Gypsy and then let the Cricut cut it all at once. The search feature is really great too. You can just type in "sun" and it'll show you all the different suns and what cartridge they are on.

Maybe you could go to your local Michaels and ask them to give you a demo on the Gypsy and let you try it. I know my Michaels has a demonstration Gypsy.

That sounds good! The thing that's helpd me back is having to get all the different colours cut individually - I know I don't have the patience

Between reply's here and a great info thread on the cricut messageboards, I decided to go ahead and get one.

I like the search feature and placing designs from mulitple carts onto 1 mat and cut once. The placment on the mats will be great, since I use lots of scraps. I also figure when I volunteer to do some cutting for DD teacher's , they can see the designs on it --- saves paper when doing tests.

Cricutmachine has it for $160. I figure I buy carts when on sale for $30. so its like getting the gypsy for $100.

Would anyone be willing to show me a couple of examples of what they have made using their Gypsy? I am thoroughly intrigued by it. :)

I LOVE MY GYSPY!!!!! and cant scrap with out it --- saves so much time and paper. I also have DS and could never figure it out right. the gyspy is so much fun --- you will love it. Plus i like to see what other Carts there are and play with them before going out and buying the cart. The other thing that is great is that i dont have to keep taking out all my carts and putting them away and lugging them to crops.
you will love it

I have been having trouble with DS also. I hear the gypsy is much easier. While I do not travel to scrap very often, it will be nice not to have to search thru all my boxes for the one I want.

Wow! I just checked my order status. I ordered last night around 9:00 and I just got an email saying it was shipped.

I LOOOOOVE MY GYPSY!!! I absolutely do not scrap without it!!! I too only scrap at home but I love to be able to sit at gymnastics and work on layouts or cards!! I think my favorite thing is not having to have my carts anymore because I don't need them so now I can weld 2 objects from 2 different carts and it will cut without having to load a different cart!!

If you are on the fence then I would ask for a demo at your local Michaels and trust me it is well worth the money!!! :yay:

So, even if I can't use DS to save my life, i should still consider getting a Gypsy? It drives me insane that I can't figure out DS, but that software just doesn't make sense to me!

So, what's the target price I should be looking to get a Gypsy for? Just in case I decide to treat myself to one? :rolleyes1

Wow, I'm shocked so many of you love the Gypsy. Maybe because I'm used to the bigger screen with CDS, it just doesn't "do it" for me. I have used CDS to design something and then uploaded it to the Gypsy to cut so I don't have to use my cartridges.

I got a good deal on a gypsy on ebay and mine came last week. I'm very under-whelmed by it. I think being so used to working with SCAL, the gypsy is a step backwards. There are many features that I assumed it would have that it does not. And since I have a Mac, I don't have the option of getting DS to go along with it and do the things I want to do. I hope that future updates add more features. Plus, I was always a book person in terms of the Cricut cartridges. It's not the same to look at the little keypad as it is to flip through the books (especially for things like the Disney character carts and the Paper dolls ones with all the accessories and icons.) I was hoping to move my cartridges into the closet, but I think at least the books need to stay out.

This is true. It is hard to see some of those little features and it takes time to keep zooming in. I find that I keep the books for PPDU, Dino Tracks, and a couple other carts out and ready. The others are stored away.

Well, my gypsy came yesterday. I registered, updated and did a very small layout with designs from multiple carts. Then I tried to save. That's where the problems started. My gypsy won't save...puts me to the application screen. Called ProvoCraft. Mine is defective. I am currently waiting for them to email a pre-paid postage label.

A little dissapointed but pleased with their quick response to replace.

I will say that I liked what little I saw so far and I still plan on playing with it until that email comes.

sorry to hear that you got a defective one. I love mine. I do most cropping at home, but its nice to save paper and I can sit on the couch and set up titles, boarders, etc while watching the family.
