cricut expression and Scal ? from a newbie

I don't have anything yet, but I have been looking on here and LOVE the things I have seen. Here is where the confusion sets in.

For mickey for example, is every "part" a separte cut that I have to put together myself? If so, is there a machine that will print it out colored as one cut-hope that makes sense.

Also, if I find a cute pic and have it saved, can I use that with SCAL to make it a cutout

Most of what you are seeing are paper piecings, each color is a different cut and you have to piece them together. The newest Cricut machine, the Imagine, will print and cut both, but I am not sure if you can use SCAL with it. SCAL is not a Provo Craft product (the maker of Cricut) and there are rumors that PC was working on a fix to block SCAL from the new machines. Not sure if that ever came to light though.
