whats peoples views on this pub,is it a nice place to go for an evening wind down after parks and a meal, peoples views would be appreciated :umbrella: :grouphug: :moped:

To be honest, there is a 1001 things I'd rather be doing or eating in than spending a night of my holiday in an English bar. I could spend about 350 nights a year in one if I wish.

The bar's Ok, just not for me.

Where is it? We do not usually look out for English pubs in the US but we are travelling with a party of 14 who may wish to.

hi

its tucked away in the mercado on int drive.its run by english people and does have english beer.it has on certain nights live football and entertainment for which they do make a small charge.beware the football is on around 10am us time

The Cricketers Arms is a bit of a dive in my opinion, we went to watch a football game one evening and only stayed about twenty minutes. It was really dirty and our feet were sticking to the carpet! If you really want to go to an English pub there's one just down from Wet 'n' Wild (I think it's called the Red Dragon/Rose and Crown/stereotypical English pub name)!! They're also fairly expensive compared to the American places on I-drive - if you got to places like Chillis, you get a much better meal and the beer is usually buy-one-get-one-free, makes for a much livelier evening!

I'd definitely recommend trying some of the other bars and restaurants on the drive rather than the English pubs - much better value for money and the atmosphere is ten times better!!

Why would you want to visit an English bar, The Staff will probably rude, drinks overpriced and the food expensive and average. Stay in England if you want that!

Hi mrshnn,

I can't answer your question as I've never been, but I think this is an entirely reasonable question to ask - not sure why some people are putting you down you for asking :confused3 It's your holiday after all!

Cheers

No one is putting mrshnn down, she or he was asking for opinions on the place, which is what I and others gave. Sorry mrshnn if it came accross that way to you.

I/we think the cricketers arms is plain awful and one hell of a rip off for drinks.

The only time I have remotely felt threatened while in Florida was the day we went to Mercado to see what it was like now.

Stopped outside the Cricketers Arms and got abuse hurled at us by some very rough "fine English" lads who were drunk and sitting on the seats outside. There was no football on at the time.

Based on that I wouldnt go anywhere near it.

Couldnt help cringing at what the American families thought as they passed by. :confused3

It's a football pub - plain and simple - just like the pubs that show football over here. I've been there to watch Chelsea games and the raucous atmosphere and banter is great - if you like football and your team is playing it's a nice diversion for a couple of hours. I hasten to add that it is not the place to go if you don't like football but if you are used to football pubs over here then you will enjoy it.

Best wishes

Florida Lol

he he DC well said

Sorry, I thought the OP was aksing for people's opinions on this place (which everyone else has given) not to be criticised for choosing to look for an English style pub on their holiday?

Perhaps I misunderstood the comments but they seemed quite rude to me and I'm not used to that on this board.

been there a couple of times.good for football, but the beers
not up to much for the price.
nov 5 and counting  :cool1: :rotfl2:

We use a football pub regularly at home and it's far superior to the dive known as the Cricketers Arms!

would usually give an english pub a wide birth on holidays, especially as we are welsh, but anyway, as my DH is convinced that Chelsea will get to the champions league final on may 25th, i might have to drop him off there, or go there myself, good to know what I might be letting myself in for. pirate:

Think that some of the replies were a bit rough on mrsshn, only asking a question, thats what we all , isn't it? :guilty: do

no offence taken i seem to have provoked a good arguement for not going to the cricketers arms ,i wasnt aware that it was a football haunt, the hotel i am staying at is virtually opposite to the mercado and i thought it may well be somewhere to go after a lonf day at the parks.

i think i will try it i am now very curious

thanks again all pirate: :grouphug: :moped:

We have not been for a number of years now, despite the fact that I am a fanatical Liverpool fan we used to go there for the food which used to be very good.
The Mercado has dropped in popularity so we tend not to go there now.
Suspect it may have changed hands since we were last there, after all a pub called the 'cricketer's arms' shouldn't really be a footie pub should it?

Would never go there to watch a match, wouldn't be fair on my little boy - not that my wife would mind.

It has to be said that The Mercado itself is looking very run down these days. Half the units are empty.
