Crib vs. Pack and Play dilemma

Hi! We will be traveling to WDW in late Oct. with our DS1, staying at the Poly, concierge level. I believe I read that the WDW resorts have pack and plays available. I would rather he sleep in a crib (I currently have one rented from ABBF), but here is my dilemma. Our plane lands at about 4 p.m. which means by the time we get our luggage, our rental car, drive to the resort and check in, I'm thinking it's going to be around 6 p.m. My son starts his bedtime around 7 p.m. so it's only going to give me an hour to get the crib delivered to our room, set it up, get the sheets on and start his bedtime - that is if everything goes smoothly to begin with!! I'm not sure what to do - maybe use the pack and play for the first night just so I know I will be able to set everything up quickly and then get the crib together the next day? I'm not sure - any thoughts, advice, opinions would be really helpful. This is our first major trip with our baby and I'm really nervous.

You might want to check with Poly... They may have real cribs instead of just pack and plays, since they are a Deluxe resort.

Our kids all slept fine in the pack and plays. Being it's your first I'm assuming, you probably think the pack and play won't suffice, but trust me, it will be fine. And, your son will probably be so tired after all that Disney stuff that he will be too tired to notice what he's sleeping in, as long as he's sleeping!

Our DD never slept well in a porta crib. We always used the metal cribs that they offered at the resort. They are first come service, but we've always gotten one. There is white and silver. I like the white a little better bc it is not so cold to the touch. I thought they were clean and looked comfortable. I know some people don't like them bc they look like hospital beds, which they do, but I thought they were nice. We just brought a sheet from home. I thought they were so much cleaner than the pack in plays. The sides in those things are impossible to clean! I sent back numerous ones we received before switchy the the cribs there. A believe me I am picky!

I also like that there is no set up like the ABBF. I have used them for other items and was happy. However, I would advise you to make sure the batteries work before the delivery person leaves!

We got two cribs from Housekeeping our last trip. We just called down and they brought them up for no charge. They were nice. It was real easy to set up. Not at all like setting up a crib in your own home. I would save my money and try and get one of these first. I would keep the number for ABBF handy though in case you can't get one from Disney.

we've always just used the pack and plays. i dont see much difference in the two.
if there was one available at no cost from the resort i would maybe ask to use one, but hinestly i cant see going tot he trouble of renting a crib.

I rented from abbf this past May. Once you check in, just call and have the crib delivered - it shouldn't take more than 10 min to have it brought to the room. Set up is very easy - it took me less than 10 min to set it up (and I am not good a things like that - DH normally does those things, but I was on my own this past trip). So, if you stick with abbf, it should be easy to get it delivered in set up in under 30 min. The sheets/bedding were all included; everything was clean and in good shape.

DS was 13 months during the trip, and does not sleep well in a PnP. So, if Poly does not have a regular crib, I would stick with the full size crib from abbf.

As an FYI, I did bring a spare mattress pad and crib sheet from home - you never know when you'll need it - and who wants to deal with trying to get laundry done in the middle of the night if necessary.

You know your child best, my DD would never sleep in pack and play, never. I would go with ABBF and not worry so much about bedtime. You all with have to eat dinner and such and your son will be so excited to be in a new place. I would say it will be ok if he goes to sleep that night at 8 or even 9 pm. Do you plan on being back in the room for bedtime every night by 7 pm? We have gone with my DD 3 times, at 1 year, 18 months and 22 months and she never stuck to her bedtime. Usually by the time we got back to the room to get her to sleep it was at least 10 and often she wouldn't fall asleep until 11 or later because she was so wound up, but she took long naps and did just fine all week, no major meltdowns.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the advice! I didn't even realize Poly might have a crib. I e-mailed concierge and they have reserved a pack n play for us. They do have cribs, but can't guarantee availability. I asked them to please put my request in understanding I may not get one. I think what I will do is go with the pack n play for the first night and see if we get the crib. If we don't get the crib, I will see how my DS does in the pack n play and go from there. Maybe call ABBF and see if they still have one available. I was going to rent a bathtub and monitor from them as well, so I may go ahead with that rental. We bring his pack n play to grandma's and he sleeps very well in it. I'm just always concerned that it may not be the best for his back. I will bring sheets from home as well. So much stuff traveling with a baby!!

May I ask what abbf charges for a full size crib rental for a week.Dgd will be coming to visit while we are down there over the winter and she is not a good sleeper in a pack and play. We will be at a rental home in
Emerald Island and I assume they would deliver there. Thanks for any info you can provide. Grammy

You can get more details on abbf.com. They deliver all over Orlando, I think. Cost for a crib (incl. bedding) for the week is $79. I think prices have gone up, because it was a bit less in May.

We always but the crib request on our ressie - never had one upon arrival so the 1st call from the room was to mousekeeping and they always delivered within a few minutes.

I think my total came to $84 including taxes.

We are going with my son who will be 18 months. I was worried about the pack n play. he seems to sleep ok, but it just seems so darn uncomfortable with the brace in the center. PLus he moves - alot - and I always heardm him moving around in the pack n play.

And of course in my overactive mind he was rolling so much to try to get comfortable.

I figured pay the $84 and not worry about it anymore! No more worrying about comfort, will I get the clean one etc. Its done and now I can relax...about that...not about the entire trip mind you.

My youngest was 2 months shy of 3 years old when we went to disney and he slept fine in the pack and play. If your one year old sleeps in the pack and play fine I wouldn't worry about paying extra for a crib but that's just me.
