I saw the new movie Insidious this weekend. I wasn't expecting a pg-13 movie to be as creepy as it was, but I was happily surprised. There were many scenes that legitimately made me jump - and not the usual cheap horror tricks. It really had some good scenes that sent chills through you. I like horror movies that don't rely on blood and carnage, yet still are scary. Not saying I don't appreciate a good zombie flesh feast, but this was a nice creepy change. It got me thinking what other horror or suspense movies are really, really creepy.

A few other creepy movies I like are:
The Sixth Sense
28 Weeks Later - bloody and creepy
Funny Games - the absolute creepiest and shocking movie I have seen, and not one second of violence is shown on screen.

What are the creepiest movies you have seen?

The strangers creep me out so much that was the last creepy movie I ever saw. DH is gone a lot and our house is not very close to other houses so that hit home.

I love a good creepy movie...DH wants to see Insidious..

For me...

Sixth Sense
Paranormal Activity
The Last Exorcism

I am sure there are others...this is just what I have on top of my head..

Secret Window with Johnny Depp freaked me out for a good two weeks after watching. Let's just say I could not look at corn the same way for awhile.

This one is old, but Deliverance with Bert Reynolds freaked me out.

Oh...thats another good one...I saw that in the theater and was CREEPED out for a LONG time

Candy Man (I can't stand watching Virginia Madsen on The Event now.)
Paranormal Activity 2
The Forth Kind
The Strangers

the remake of Cape Fear with DeNiro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis...disturbing..not a slasher film, but creeped me out for sure.

Pan's Labyrinth
The Shining
Dawn of the Dead
Rosemary's Baby
Trilogy of Terror

I'll have to watch the last two (love Sixth Sense). Sounds like we like the same type of horror movie.

The creepiest to me (as a 7 year old, though), was Crowhaven Farm. It took me years (like more than ten) to get over that movie. Scared me to death!

For me creepy its more about individual scenes than entire movies.

"look at me Damien, it's all for you"

The girl pulling herself up out of that well in "The ring"

The kid going down the stairs backwards in "The Exorcist"

The kid Cutting someone's achilles tendon in in "Pet Semetary"

Bunny scene in Fatal Attraction.

One isn't even a horror movie but the scenes where Commodus makes advances towards his sister
Lucilla in "Gladiator" are too creepy for words.

this thread has given me some stuff to drop into my Netflix for Halloween

The Mothman Prophecies. I'm not really creeped out by blood and gore, I get more creeped out by psychological thrillers, especially when they are based on true stories. Because of Mothman, I never look directly out of my window when its dark outside.

Oh yes that movie definitely! I think I have to see it again.

I started to watch that the other night but turned it off during the history lesson (just not what I had in mind that night and the close-ups were really annoying me). Maybe I'll have to give it another chance.

We went and saw it the Friday it came out and all I can say is :scared1: - in a good way. DD13 LOVES scary, creepy movies and she was crawling into DH's lap 1/4 of the way into the movie.

For a PG13 was very well done. We really liked that several sceens had the feel of several of our favorite scary movies.

Also, I will never be able to listen to Tip toe thru the tulips again the same way.

Definitely give it a chance. As much as it creeps me out, its one of my favorite movies, and it doesn't hurt that Richard Gere is easy on the eyes
