Has anyone run into Credit Card Swipe Fee's?
What retailers are charging?

Retailers will have to post on their doors and near checkout that they are charging a fee to use a CC.

So far, I haven't seen a single sign. It looks like all the paranoia about this has become a non-starter. Retailers know their customers, upon seeing that sign, would turn around and leave without darkening their doorways, so they're keeping the current structure, where it's built into the cost of things and if you pay cash, you're actually subsidizing the CC users.

Of course, I use my Disney Chase everywhere, sooooo. . .I'm one of the ones who is penalizing the cash customers. . .

Yes, there is a thread about CC swipe fee's...
But, It ends before the fee's go into effect.

The purpose of this thread is to post which retailers are actually charging the fee.

I have not encountered any yet.
Anyone else?

Fees, not fee's.

I don't know of any retailers charging the fee.

I imagine most larger retailers will not be charging the fee... I do expect that a bunch of mom & pop shops will charge the fee (think craft fairs, nj & md boardwalk shops)

if I were a mom / pop store I'd offer a cash discount rather than a cc fee.

In defense of small business, when a customer charges a very inexpensive item...let's say $3.00...the swipe fee and percentage fee would wipe out mst of the profit built into the price of an item that cheap.
Frankly, I am floored when I see someone in WaWa charge a candy bar and pack of gum. Big businesses like WaWa, etc. probably get preferred rates from their credit card companies, but there sure can't be much profit left when someone charges such tiny amounts. Small businesses (mom and pop operations) do not get preferred rates.
A cash discount also eats the profit. Raising prices is the only alternative then everyone complains about that.

Florida and California are two of the 10 US states that ban checkout fees, including credit card surcharges. So no worries for your WDW/DL vacations.

I believe the other states are: Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas.

I am afraid that one large national retailer will start charging the fee.

Like the airlines with baggage fees(sp correction due to lost in cyber space)
Every Retailer will jump on Board...And start Charging...

There goes our Credit Card rewards down the drain....

Why are you floored? I sometimes go an entire week on $5 cash. We haven't hit the ATM in about two months. We charge everything we buy, big, little, and everywhere in between. It helps us keep track of purchases, get rewards, etc. Wawa is making a good bit on my $1 coffee--even if I charge it. I'm sure they make even more on my gas purchase.

:thumbsup2

It may just be a few cents that I get when I charge a coffee, but if I do it often enough, it becomes worth my while. It's just as easy as a cash transaction and less likely to contain errors.

In New York there isn't suppose to be a fee or minimum purchase. However, many people don't know their rights and see the bodega or pizza shop says "7 dollar credit card minimum" or whatever on their register and just believe it. Most of the time when I tell them hey I know that's illegal and I'll report you they will take the card. The only reason I charge small things is I realize on my way to work I need a bottle of water or I've been running around town and just want a candy bar and soda but not 7 dollars worth of those. I don't carry cash living in NYC because if my wallet gets stolen and I have cash I loose that money but if my wallet gets stolen and I have my debit/credit cards in it I can call my bank instantly and know that money will be returned and my means of living is safe.

I haven't seen any place charging, but some places near me have instituted minimum purchases (usually $5) which is something I totally understand and accept. I can't believe some of the people I see in our local corner store, charging a 20oz soda or an ice cream cone. The processing costs for a small retailer are high enough that those very small transactions are likely a loss for them.

I try not to charge anything under $5 and if it is a small store I try not to charge under $20 or so. Places like walmart I really don't care. My dad runs a small health food store and was telling us the costs to him on using a credit card (outrageous). When people try to charge a buck or 2 with a card that eats up any profit and possibly takes a loss. He did finally put up a sign about a minimum purchase of $10. You used to not be able to do that but I think you can do it now. I know people say credit card fees are just a cost of doing business and may be fine for big businesses but with a small mom and pop store like my dad's just trying to stay in business, you look at it different

Actually Wawa isn't really making anything off your gas purchases right now. They are charging enough in the gas price in order to pay for their next drop. Brother in law works in the distribution end of gas and explained how all of that works. That is why a lot of these places offer incentives for you to come into the store. They make their profit off the store purchases.

I read on another thread that Allegiant Air is charging the fee. I haven't tried to book with them personally, so can't say for sure.
