So, my Reading/old English teacher asked me if I could join our 7th grade Creative Writing team since we currently don't have enough player for a team. Is anyone else on a Creative Writing team at their school? Is it fun? I debating whether or not to join...

If I would, I'd have practice every Tuesday and Wednesday, and I'm not sure when the actual contests are.

We don't have one, but I'd say that if you like to write and are willing to commit the time, do it. I've won two essay contests in the past 12 months, and I only wrote them to entertain myself. You never know what might happen, and it might be good practice if you want to go into the English/creative writing field.

I do... I think I'll look on the Internet and find some examples of topics they give, and maybe some winning entries to see what I may be up against

I am on a Ready Writing team if that's what you mean (my competition is under the UIL Academics umbrella with Speech and Debate and Prose and Poetry and all that.)

For us, the judges give a random topic, and we have 20-30 minutes to write a creative story on it. The best-written, most creative (but not crazy) one wins

Interesting. In Ready Writing, they give you two quotes to choose from from famous people or authors and you have two hours to write an essay over it. Both times, I've place 6th and 7th respectfully.

Wow, that sounds cool! And good job! I guess the only thing I don't like about the CW team is that I'll be judged on stuff I write, which normally doesn't happen

But I like Anney's point, I'd like to be a writer when I grow up, so I guess this would be great experience

I'm taking a creative writing class next year. I'm so excited! I'd go for it!

It's a lot of fun, and I hope to do even better this year. No one in my school has gotten to State yet so that's my goal by the time I graduate, to make it to State and move on.

It would be good experience, and if you've got good judges they give good advice. And you gotta learn to take constructive criticism and use it to improve.

I'll talk to my teacher tomorrow, now I just hope we have enough people for a team. We need six, we have three/four, not counting me
It's an elective.

I had one in eighth grade. It was awesome. They don't have it at my high school though.
Wow, your electives are a whole lot better than mine...

Awesome! We don't have any of that stuff at my tiny school. I hope you have fun with it!
