Creative Memories and iphoto (when the Mac version comes out)

Ok, so they are coming out with the Mac version of StoryBook but NOT a Mac version of Memory Manager. The thought is that you can just use iphoto for that.

Now, from what I can see, iphoto doesn't do nearly the things that Memory Manager can do (add color, take away color, major manipulation, etc...)

Am I just not understanding that iphoto is capable of? I really wanted to add some color to some black and whites, take away some color from just part of a photo, touch up/restore some old photos, etc.....

Am I missing what iphoto can do? I just got a Mac 2 months ago but overall really like it and wanted to eventually replace or add another Mac desktop, but it seems like I am running into some snags with wanting it to do things I could do on the PC or programs that won't run on Macs.

Thanks,

Dawn

you can't do the things with iPhoto that you can with Memory Manager.
With iPhoto you can turn the photo B&W, sepia, vignette, blurred edges, etc. just basic stuff.
That is under edit and then effects.

I use Photoshop elements for my photoshopping needs.

Help me out here....I admit I am slow when it comes to this stuff.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements that came with my scanner. I think it is version 4. I haven't even downloaded it or played with it yet.

So, if I stick with the Mac version coming out, I would store my photos in iphoto and then ONLY the ones I want to manipulate I would use Photoshop for and then save them back into iphoto?

The last couple of days I have been sorting and scanning photos and old slides and I am trying to figure this all out before buying.

yeah, there is a lot of shuffling involved but the way I figured it out was to move the file to photoshop, edit there and move it back over to iPhoto (maybe via the pictures folder????).
It's a pain. But it's not terrible if you aren't editing 1000's of photos.

I had to move all my RAW images to photoshop to convert them so I didn't lose color saturation when I printed. Now that was a pain!

Wait, what do you mean? I have all my RAW files directly into iphoto and my online storage.....have I lost color saturation?

I do have them on my hard drive on my PC so I could go back and re-copy them into my online storage and then to iphoto.

This is turning out to be a HUGE project!

Thank you for answering these questions for me!

You do lose color if you print them.

I keep my camera on vivid mode and we had explosive color from Mickey's Halloween party but when I printed they were noticeably duller. DH showed me how convert the pictures in photoshop to keep the brightness.

I can explain more this afternoon. gotta get the boys to school.

Thanks.

I am out today running errands myself. We leave for vacation tomorrow (Williamsburg and DC, not Disney this time!) but I have a lot of photos to take while there. Our boys (our scout troop) get to lay the wreath at Arlington on Monday! I am so excited!

Anyway, look forward to hearing from you.

Do you have any experience with Aperture? When I get back from vacation I plan to play with Aperture and Photoshop, as both have 30 day free download trials and see what I think.

I hear good reviews of Aperture 3. Amazon has it for just a little more than Photoshop.
