Creative hot Hotel Meals

My sister in-law said they brought an electric skillet and made their own pancakes. I've heard of heating soup in the coffee pot. We will be driving so we'll have some room, but we want room for our bodies and don't want to pack the kitchen sink. Has anyone tried these or done something similar?


We are staying in Paradise Pier at the end of the month thanks to the expedia op! It doesn't look like the rooms have microwaves. Is there one in the lobby that guests can use? (Please tell me it will be worth it! Expedia charged $14 and then PP will chare $16 more a day. My $100 hotel is now $130. It's our first trip so it's worth it right?!)

Well, there's probably no fridge either but you can bring a cooler. We brought frozen gourmet hamburgers and a small foreman grill and that was fantastic. I've heard of people bringing a crockpot-- you can also get crockpot liners which makes it really easy to clean. We were going to do that but we had so much food already I couldn't justify it, plus the cord on our small crockpot is a little melted from touching a burner once. Whoops. It's fine but I don't know what a maid would think of it...Don't forget you can order pizza to be delivered from the many pizza joints around the resort. There's lots of stuff you can do in a skillet too.

Why do that?? When Cheap eats are everywhere?? Downtown Disney Express Jazz Kitchen for an order of Beignets. Lunch, still in DTD, Wetzel's Pretzels dogs with melted cheddar cheese. yummy! DCA Corn Dogs at the Farmers Market near Bugs life. And get your free Sour Dough bread and Tortilla on the tours on the DCA Pier.

In DL in Critter Country near Pooh the store has a Bakery of tigger tails, and sweets, but the best was the Raspberry Chocolate Cookie it was so yummy and lasted 3 days!!

In DL the Golden Houseshoe go a little before the Billy Hill Show starts, order your Chicken or Fish they come with good fries, and a med. drink and forget the rest of the menu. Sit, eat, watch, and refresh!! If you need Dinner while waiting for Fantazmic, the Golden Houseshoe has an express window on the facing the Rivers of America.

DL Dinner a must have and splitable at River Belle Terrace the Tenn barbecued pork Sandwich, or with drink you choose premade salad[I had the olive salad it was great!!Dh wasn't impressed with the coleslaw.]

We always carry water and a soda, this is the first trip that was soooo hot [104 days] that we ask for free cups of ice to cool our drinks, it was freely given.

We are bringing our sandwich maker and making pizza pockets. Of course we have a fridge though. We tried them out on the kids this weekend, they loved them and DH and I did some reminiscing of our newlywed days.

Really??? That sounds a little gross (and poor person who gets grease spots on their clothes when they try to iron them afterwards......).


OP - did you try to phone the hotel and see if they have microwaves available? I would try that. And I agree with a previous poster - there are lots of inexpensive food choices around Disneyland Most of the meals are big enough to share, which is also a bonus!

On our trip last month we brought along a toaster oven. We wanted to save money on food and I have to have gluten free food so it seemed like a good idea, and it was...BUT... be really, really careful not to burn any food. Even a little smoke can set off the fire alarm for THE ENTIRE HOTEL...which will involve an evacuation.

I say this because while it didn't actually happen to us, it almost did and I freaked out suddenly realizing what might have happened when something I was cooking began to smoke a little.

Actually the grilled cheese with an iron does work, but it works best if you put the sandwich between 2 pieces of waxed paper. We tried it once for kicks, it works.

OP I would suggest calling the hotel and asking about a microwave. Or waiting for Bumbershoot to see your post and letting you know, she's stayed there a few times more than I have (I've only stayed once) and when we stayed we weren't needing a microwave. BUT I'm pretty sure we did have a fridge, my BFF has to eat gluten free so we had a fridge for some of her food.

The rooms at all the Disney hotels have mini fridges. No microwaves, though. If you want hot water I would bring my own hotpot rather than using the in-room coffeemaker - everything that comes out of a coffeemaker tastes like coffee to me.

We are staying at HoJos and planning to take an electric skillet. We are buying it as we leave NY to use on our road trip as well as in Anaheim.
Cheap eats may be everywhere but it still costs way more to eat out as a family of 5 than it does to make something in the skillet.

Honestly I have a problem with hotel room cooking from both a safety and an odor standpoint......so anything that doesen't microwave or mix with hot water I would never do and hope my neighbors wouldn't either. JMHO

I agree with Judy. Nothing is worst than having to smell something coming through the vents. And I don't think its that safe. Too many things can happen by accident. Not to mention what housekeeping will have to deal with. Easy stuff that can be done without bringing appliances from home.

I know one of the reasons they do not have coffee makers at DLH is that they do not have the wattage to support them. So obviously, if they don't have the electrical support for coffee, they definately can have no microwaves.

You can always take tortillas and make wraps. They sell cooked diced chicken that is in the refridgerated deli section. Add some salsa, cheese and avacado for something yummy that isn't heated

The five times we have stayed at DLH they have had coffee pots in the room. Now granted we have stayed elsewhere the last two trips so....is this new that the DLH does not have coffee pots?

I love all the ideas from crockpots to sandwhich makers. I never would have come up with the iron grilled cheese sandwich! You have all made good points about smells and smoke. I don't think I would want coffee flavored soup either.

We could eat out, but I'm a tight wad and thought we'd only eat out once a day.

Someone in another thread posted about how inexpensive and tasty El Pollo Loco is. Where is that located?
