Are you a fan?

I am, but not if the sauce is too thick. I make it, but my wife makes it better.

I like it on non buttered rye toast, with crumbled hard boiled eggs on top, and a few splashes of Tabasco.

But if the sauce is too thick, i won't even eat it.

I am not a fan of anything that mixes cream and beef

To be honest, I've never even tried it, not even in the Navy. It just never looked like something I wanted to eat. :confused3

HA!! My DH used to have this all the time growing up. One of the first times I went over his house for dinner (he was 17) they had this. I LOVED it and he thought it was so gross. I have no idea how they made it. How do you make it? I would love to try it again.

I haven't had it in a long time, but I like it. I have had both homemade and Stouffers versions.

It's one of our DD2's favorite, I can take or leave it.....now sausage gravy over biscuits is a different story. :thumbsup2

Haven't had it in years, but like it.
My wife has another name for it, SOS, .....Something on a Shingle. Well, not something, but you get my drift.

I love it. I haven't had it in years because no one in my house likes it. The Stouffers brand is fine.

Yep, I have heard it by that name as well. I have it from time to time.

LOVE it but I know some people think Cream Chipped Beef is made with ground beef (I used to get it at the NCO club like that). YUCK...

I like it made with Carson's Dried Beef and the white sauce.

I love it on buttered toast. I also love creamed tuna on toast. When my parents divorced and my dad had other priorities for his money:rolleyes1 my mom had to make due, and these two dishes were staples at our house.

Exactly. It wouldn't be right with hamburger.

I like it with ground beef or the dried beef, though I guess I prefer the dried beef.

Technically, with ground beef, it is a different dish. It's Creamed "Chipped" Beef. The "chipped" is referred to the shaved-style of the beef. I think the ground beef version should be called something different. I have seen it on buffets and it's been called beef and gravy or something like that.

Oh my goodness.... YES I love it! But haven't had it in probably twenty years. WOW.

I, too, like creamed tuna on toast.

This is being added to my "make this sometime soon" list. Although it's funny that someone mentioned this as being a easy-on-the-budget staple because I remember my mom complaining about how expensive the beef was.

My mom would make it with a basic white sauce that you just add the cheap .99 cent shaved beef lunch meat too (or is it shaved corned beef?). The kind that comes in the pouches. I like it, dh loves it. I bet my kids wouldn't eat it :snooty:.

Yep, I know, but in my family and my wife's family, we kind of mean it generically....

I think I just gagged a little ; ) . LOL

Sounds like comfort food , but not something we eat in s. Louisiana .

Of course someone mentioned sausage gravy and biscuits , YUMMMMM

My father and I engaged in many food wars when i was growing up. Cream chipped beef was a biggy. When I came home I could smell it as soon as I opened the door and would start feeling ill. I knew he would make me eat at least a little. Cream chipped beef is the number one reason my kids were never made to eat anything they didn't like growing up if they just tasted a little to be sure. Number two was liver an onions and three was home made turkey soup. My mother was not a good cook, in my memory either. In her defense she was tryinig to feed four hungry kids on a fireman's pay.
