Crazy to cancel DVC now, wait for KT?

My gut says that you should back down to 160 points at AKV, and then add on at the KT when or if it becomes a reality. You can always bank and borrow to make the 160 points work at AKV, and then add-on there or somewhere else in a couple of years. Smaller contracts are easier to deal with than larger ones.

Back it down to 160 AKV pts and add the 90 on at KT sounds like great advice to me.

Hey everyone. Thanks so much for your thoughts and opinions. We're still not positive what we'll do, and we only have a couple days to decide. I do think we'll exercise the cancellation though, and wait until fall to see if we can buy into KT.

You all gave me a lot to think about. For one thing, I didn't realize that points at new resorts were offered to members first, so we will be taking a chance w/KT. I think that if we couldn't buy in, that AKV will still be available, and hopefully with decent incentives.

The biggest risk, and someone pointed this out, is that we've got a good thing here, dev. pts, '08 pts, and no mf until '09. But in the long run, it's not THAT big a deal.

You are probably laughing when I say we won't add on points :rotfl2: But, really, I don't think we will, at least not at a second resort. Maybe I haven't read enough, and figured it out, but I don't really see the benefit. If I can't make an 11 mo out ressie for a 1br for a minimum of 4-5 days (pref 6-7), it doesn't do me any good. Though probably, if we get KT, then we'll get more pts than we just did at AKV cause we'll need them there.

You're all right, who said to buy where you love it. And that's why we did AKV instead of SSR. But yeah, KT and the castle and the fireworks and the MK is tugging at my heart!

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. Regardless of what we do, I'll be hangin out here I think :)

(Oh, I'm pretty sure I found that thread at the other place! thanks!)

What is it that attracted you to AKV in the first place? I love AKV and that is why we own there. Once we saw the preview models, we knew that it was for us. Kidani is going to be a tremendous resort and AKV as a whole IMHO will become a destination in itself. If you like AKV, and can see yourself staying there, I would stick with it. You could always add on KTV points if it becomes the reality that we all expect.

I, of course, am not the best to ask as I don't see how KTV will be a better resort than AKV, OKW, BWV, or BCV.

But the bottom line is that you should buy where you want to stay. Of course, as has been pointed out, KTV sales will likely be open to existing members first.

Good luck with your decision.

Okay, Why dont you go ahead with AKV and be able to vacation till They announce KT if they do.Then you can always sell your AKV contract. Then that way you can get in on KT as being an owner of DVC and then when you buy in then you can sell the AKV contract.

That "other" not to be named DVC board has tons of official docs, with room layouts, pool info on KT. Anyone wants info..pm me.:thumbsup2

Well, since I'm so new I can't send a PM, but I believe that I can receive them, sooo, if you would please PM me with that info I would be ever so grateful.

My DH and I are very seriously considering buying DVC and I want Animal Kingdom. We'll buy in at the minimum, or very slightly higher. We only want to visit WDW every 3 years or so. We're currently waiting for our Guide to call us back.

Add-ons need to be managed a bit differently. You should have your most points at the home resort you want to stay at most. If you do an add-on at a different resort, you need to look at your prefered reservation and divide by 2 or 3 to get an add-on that matches that number of points every 2-3 years. We have two contracts at one home resort so we can use all 380 at the 11 month window, but we added on 69 points at AKV so we could have our desired reservation there every 3rd year at the 11 month window.

My advice is that if you see yourself staying at AKV, you should go with the "bird in the hand". You can always add on at KTV IF it becomes available. One problem of waiting is when and if it will be available.

I don't think they will be selling KT anytime soon MAYBE 2009 at some point. You'll have to wait a long time and pay a lot more. I'm sure there will be 7 month availability much of the time, especially a few years after the newness of the resort wears off. There are plenty of people, like me, who really have no interest in staying there. Given a choice, I'd choose VWL first.

Of course you can always sell some of your AKV contract and buy KT later if you want to. (make sure you split your AKV contracts if you are buying more than 160).
