Crazy to cancel DVC now, wait for KT?

Ok, just became a brand new DVC member on Friday at AKV-KV. Thrilled, excited, we think we'll love the resort.

THEN, start reading all the news and rumors about the Kingdom Tower at the Contemporary.

I know it's all speculation right now. May not be true, probably is though. Might not be included in the DVC, probably will though!

We got some nice incentives to buy into AKV, nothing spectacular or anything, so probably wouldn't affect the decision. KT probably won't have incentives right away.

ANYWAY, advice from veterans (or anyone! :) ) Would it be crazy to invoke the backout clause with the AKV and wait for the maybe of KT?

Don't want to just add on with KT. Want it as Home , AND we have 250 pts already, probably wouldn't want more or many more, so couldn't do much with them at KT if not Home.

It won't really matter to us if we wait. Now or fall just won't affect plans all that much, esp b/c we can't use our AKV pts until 5/09 anyway.

Experts, what do you think? (other than I should have done my homework BEFORE now, haha.

Thank You!

I think you have to decide based on where you really want your home resort to be. I think as more and more resorts are added, the smaller resorts will be more difficult to grab when you want them if you have to wait for the 7 month booking date. So buy where you want to stay most...just my opinion...:)

I am in the process of buying in at AKL KV as well! If you dont mind me asking, what incentives did you receive for choosing there

THanks blossomz - yes, I agree. And I'd like my Home to be KT. I guess I'm hesitating because unless there's something I haven't read, then KT is all still total speculation. I could give up what I have now, hoping to buy into KT by the fall, but that may never happen. I need to do more research I guess, but I'm wondering what the consensus is - Will KT be a DVC reality. If so, will it happen some time this year ? Is it silly to walk away from the deal I just got, not knowing what, if anything is going to happen with KT. ahhhh!

kjcarruthers: deal was $8 discount per point; matching VPO pts to use within one year at SSR or II; '08 UY pts.

I bought AKV lst month and had some regrets for not waiting for KT. Based on the research that I have done KT will be a DVC. But I am content with AKV and now have no regrets with my purchase. Why? I enjoy spending time at the resorts, even if its just walking around enjoying the flowers and birds. KT will be a small resort. It is a tower and the grounds will be minimal. It is being connected to the CR and I have never been a fan of the theme of that resort. I have seen proposed point charts for KT and they will be the priciest. The MF are unknown, but I have read that having a monorail stop at the resort will add to these costs. If I want to reserve at the KT, I can (at the 7 month mark). Incentives on KT will be similar to KV at AKV. They will give you points to use at a selected DVC property of their choice until the resort is open (this works a bit differently than traditional developer points). It will be popular so they will probabaly not throw in the $500 gift cards. This of course is me just speculating. In the end, I would like to own there, but have no regrets on my decission to buy AKV.

A little confused ... I bought at AKV in November of 2007, isn't AKV-KV just a part of AKV or are they selling this separately? Thanks.

I was mixed up too until it was explained to me. All AKV is the same DVC itdoes not matter if its JAMBO HOUSE or KIDANI VILLAGE. DVC is a real estate purchase. They need to deed a specific location to buyers even if the buyer never stays in the particular unit assigned to them. JAMBO (sp.) is sold out so they will start deeding units in KIDANI VILLAGE. It does not matter which building your deeded unit is located in, All AKV memberships have the same member privaledges.

Yep, the only difference is when you have access to the resort. Because I didn't buy in until Kidani (Jambo sold out), I can't reserve and stay anywhere in the resort, even Jambo, until May '09.

The main reason I mentioned KV is b/c some threads were asking if KV were being offered yet. ALso, since I can't stay there until after May '09, that sort of goes into the decision whether to cancel and wait for KT (or VAC, or CRV or whatever it's going to be called!).

Found some great info online about this. Still so undecided but have to choose soon. Wish there was more concrete info to go on. Sold on the location though.

If you can't buy now, wait. If you want DVC and don't want to buy what's available now, then wait. Buy what you want. CRV is going to happen. If your heart is set on it , wait and buy it. It may be pricey?. KV will be coming and will be cheaper. You will NOT get concrete info until they sell.

Didn't your deal also include no MF until next year? To me that is a great perk of this incentive. The idea of getting points to use within one year at SSR or II, getting our 2008 points in June and then by next year we get another set of points .. we will be enjoying Kidani with lots of points next year when it opens! I also read that they will give you the $500 gift card for a referral. We have a call to our guide to confirm.:)

The price for KT is rumored to be very expensive. Disney expects it to sell out in less than a year with the majority being sold to existing members.

While I think it is fair to speculate that the cost per point will go up, I personally speculate that the annual fees for KT will the highest of all DVC resorts so far.

My own thoughts is that if someone is a DVC member and they really want to buy into KT, keep your membership until the facts are released about the costs (both initial and ongoing) are for KT before selling a current contract in order to pay for a new KT contract.

Wht is KV?

Another vote for BUY WHERE YOU WANT TO STAY!

IMO it's not worth the convenience of your current deal, if in the end, you will be unhappy on a waitlist for KTV during the duration of your membership.

This is something to consider. If you back out of your contract now, when KT goes on sale, if it is offered to members before the general public and sells out, you could be shut out of that resort.

(Whew..that was a run on sentence!)

It is not likely to happen, but possible I think due to the projected size of the resort (small)

Since you are already a member and have your heart set on KT, I'd wait.

I'm thinking that you bought AKV because you are at least fond of this resort. Is that true? My gut says that you should back down to 160 points at AKV, and then add on at the KT when or if it becomes a reality. You can always bank and borrow to make the 160 points work at AKV, and then add-on there or somewhere else in a couple of years. Smaller contracts are easier to deal with than larger ones.

If you add-on at KT it will also be your home. Add-on says how you purchased, not whether or not it is home.

If you read that and your heart still says I don't want 160 points at AKV and 90 at KT, I want it all at KT, then by all means cancel the AKV. NOW!!

You also don't have to stop at 90 pts at KT. You would probably end up with more KT points anyway. Addonitis is a serious and highly contagious disease that is most easily acquired by lurking and posting on the DIS, and by using your DVC.

That "other" not to be named DVC board has tons of official docs, with room layouts, pool info on KT. Anyone wants info..pm me.:thumbsup2
