Anyone ever pack peanut butter and jelly in their suitcase? We are flying and I was just thinking that if I had a way to make pbj in our room the kids would be happy and I could take them as snacks to the park. We have dining plan but this could be a good night time or park snack.
Problem being I don't know how to pack the bread! It will be smashed!

Put the whole bag of bread in a shoebox or one of those $1 plastic shoeboxes. It should keep it from getting smushed.

Be aware that peanut butter and jelly will likely be considered liquids by TSA and won't be allowed in your carry-on bag.

Also peanut butter can get flagged by airport security scanners and require a bag check (carry-on or checked). It has a dense nature similar to some types of explosives they look for.

I would also double seal both jars in a plastic bag just in case something leaks from the pressure changes.

Not sure where you are staying, but many places, particulary near the DVC villas, sell staples like bread, peanut butter, and jelly. (Such as the Screen Door on the Boardwalk). Seems like a much easier solution to just buy it when you get there than to worry about packing and transporting it in your luggage. Or just pack a couple boxes of frozen Uncrustables in your luggage. By the time you get there, they will be perfectly thawed with no mess and no worries about crushing a loaf of bread.

I've packed a jar of peanut butter in my checked bag without a problem.

If the jelly is in a glass jar, be careful to cushion it.

As someone else suggested, you could get one of those plastic "shoe box" containers for $1 to protect your bread. But I just bought my bread at the resort (POR) gift shop. Makes it much easier, unless you're particular about the type of bread you want. If so, I'd bring your own.

PS - One thing I brought on my last trip was small, individual containers of peanut butter. Jif makes six-packs of "to go" peanut butter in small cups, with a foil, peel-off top. They were great to throw in my park bag with either celery or apple slices from the POR food court. Great healthy snack!

I don't know anything about flying with food, but we just packed a bunch of uncrustables. My friend actually bought a big box of the BJ's store brand. We froze them and carried them around the parks and handed them out when the kids said they were hungry. It worked out well. The adults ate them for lunch too lol. We also froze Capri Suns and put them in..it helped keep everything cold all day. Just thought I'd suggest them (I see another poster did as well) as an easier alternative than carrying jars of peanut butter and jelly. You could probably put them inside a hard sided box to keep them from getting crushed.

Do your kids eat bagels? They don't crush so easily. We bring bagels, english muffins, peanut butter, butter and jelly all the time. Lately we have been renting DVC points so the toaster is in the room.

Just a few thoughts. I typically purchase smuckers strawberry preserves in a plastic bottle so that may be a better option than traditional glass containers. Of course, other varities are available. Another thought however, is that it should be refrigerated after opening.

If you go out for breakfast, say McDonalds, you can always ask for jelly packets and save the extras. As a previous poster has stated most food courts have packets available. We typically stay in villas and I always purchase bread when we arrive.

When I ordered from Garden Grocer last time, I wasn't interested in squeezable jelly or a 4 dollar jar of peanut butter, so I bought peanut butter at home (and it was fine in my suitcase), and I started squirreling away those little jelly packets from restaurants and filled a ziplock bag with them.

Never packed pb&j in my luggage. We normally pack several boxes of pop tarts and granola bars. I figure its my way of building in extra space in my luggage for a few souveniers on the way back home since the food will be used up.
