Crazy road rage incident!! Did I do the right thing? LONG!!

OP here

Just to clarify a few things..My kids were not running rogue in the street.

Actually my husband was holding my 22 month old while my son was driving his power wheel jeep alongside the curb. No one was in the middle of the street. Our neighbor across the street from us has a very large paver driveway, and we have permission from him for my son to ride in it if he so wishes. You see you have to know the landscape of where I live to understand. Most people here at the beach have no concrete or poured driveways. they are stones, so biking, skating etc etc on the driveway, well it isn't happening....

So my son was riding at the curb having just come out of my neighbors paver driveway with my husband holding my 22 month old in his arms. I do not let her play in the street. They were at the curbside when the driver came by, and I'll also let you guys know it was the 2nd time he had driven by our house. You see, he went to see a neighbor down the street, so he rounded the corner at a high speed the 1st time, whereas my husband did not say a thing, and then when the neighbor was not home and he had to come back, he was speeding again. So yes my husband said slow down b/c it was the 2nd time he was doing it with kids around....

Seriously? I can see how someone might think it's harrassment to have some words shouted at them while they are driving in the safety of their moving motor vehicle, but how does that make reacting by jumping out of the vehicle and lunging toward people while screaming obsenities okay?
Lunging, where did it say lunging?
Personally, I can see how the driver might have felt momentarily harrassed if he felt it was no one's business what speed he was going, but he certainly wasn't threatened. He on the other hand definately threatened the OP's family.

The only person threatened here was the driver when he was threatened with the police call

Power Wheels are not to be driven in the street or driveways......

From owners manual

-
• Prevent Injuries and Deaths
• Direct Adult Supervision Required.
• Never Ride At Night.
• Keep Children Within Safe Riding Areas.
These areas must be:
- away from swimming pools and other
bodies of water to prevent drownings
- generally level to prevent tipovers
- away from steps, steep inclines,
driveways, cars, roads and alleys.
• Riding Rules
Make sure children know and follow
these rules for safe driving and riding.
- Always sit on the seat.
- Always wear shoes.
- Only 1 (one) rider at a time.
Do not allow any child to drive the vehicle in the street or near
moving (motorized) vehicles

Most of that is all lawyer speak so the company doesnt get sued. I mean seriously "Do not use near drop offs?" Welll duh!!!

Saying its not meant to be driven in the street is just letting the company off is something happens if you do. Nothing wrong with being on the side of the street if there is just a rarely passing car.

Nothing to worry about that toaster next to the bathtub either. Saves time in the morning and all.......

I haven't read through this whole thread, but after reading the OP I just have to ask, why is it people feel the need to have their kids play in the street?

The last neighborhood we lived in the kids were always playing in the street with their parents. They'd play baseball and other stuff. Isn't that what backyards are for? How about going to a park? If you're going to play in the street then why not just live in an apartment if you're not going to use your yard?

This whole playing in the street phenomenon boggles me. Streets are for cars, period. You may think it's safe in your area, but what happens when the kids visit a friend or relative who lives on a busy street? To a kid a street is a street and they shouldn't be getting in the habit of playing in them. When I was growing up the only way you went near a street was looking both ways and then darting across as fast as you could!

what? you dont soak in the tub while toasting your bagels?

Actually if your house is properly wired you have ground fault receptacle GFCI in the bathroom thus making the said toaster next to the tub a moot point.

Are you having fun todoay, Shrubber?

Lunging = "came at my husband" IMO. I'm sure your definition is different. Maybe "came at my husband" means "smiled demurely at my husband while gently stepping to the side of his vehicle which he had glided to a stop in fear of hurting someone.":lmao: Perhaps he might also suffer from Turrets which acts up during stressful times and his concern over the children caused his episode of cursing? I really am starting to feel sorry for the poor gentleman.

When I grew up we lived on dead end street. We played in the street all the time. When a car did come by we moved off the street. When it was passed it was as Wayne and Garth say..Game on

This is where common sense needs to take effect,,,*gasp!*

Yeah if you have a neighborhood street where there is rarely a car. Just be cautious. If you have a neighborhood street where there is constant traffic then yes stay clear.

From what the OP has said her street at this time of year is basically vacant of cars. No harm in riding at the side of the street.

Here, Other than cursing, ( and I doubt many people here are guilty of that )
What did this guy do?
Heck, the husband started this whole nonsense in the first place!!

He got out of his vehicle and "came at" the family cursing.

In case you missed it, my little paraphrase was supposed to spoof how silly it is that you don't see that as threatening.

Then the driver was harrassed as much as the hubby was threatened.
And the driver was harrassed first.
Ya know, it's not too much of a stretch here ( knowing we have only the OP's statement ) to assume this driver was startled/shocked/suprised by seeing little kids in the road, driving little toy trucks that should not be in the road. Perhaps he had to manuver around them or adjust his course to not run them over?
Then the Hubby has the nerve and gall to scream at him for his driving?!
Ya, know, I think more than a few people would stop their cars and have a word or two.
And I can't see how threatening the driver was if the wife with the flaying arms drove him away.

Send me a picture of yourself, I want to know when to run!!!

I think if I was a woman with children I would do exactly the same thing.

The police taking his info may be enough to keep him away.

I'd like to know what the OP did to her husband for putting the children at risk for allowing the children to play in the road.

Personally, if I saw a parent allowing children to play in the road, I'd probably call Child Protective Services. After all, if they are allowing that in public, who knows what happens in private...

I do not agree with your assessment of the husband's actions or those of the OP.

Me either.....Personally, I think someone could of gotten hurt. I would of turned around and marched hubby and kids into the house.

This is the very reason that it is not wise for individuals to attempt to counsel strangers on their behavior. It could have been much worse.

agreed--he overreacted, but you shouldn't be yelling out that at a stranger

Yeah, common sense like not playing in the street.

I lived on a dead end road and we still had that bit of common sense.
