Good morning. We are headed to Disney in March 19th-23rd to be exact and when I looked at the 3 Swan and Dolphin resorts the reserve is the cheapest. The Swan and dolphin are well over 1500 a night😩 Any idea why or what is going on?? That’s insane!! Maybe a big conference??

I believe it’s spring break, but there could also be a big conference. We’ve had a lot of March trips and it’s always super busy, sometimes sold out. (All of WDW.)

Are those the dates for the garter data scientists conference? A friend of mine goes every year and it’s usually around mid March. He mentioned that is the location this year.

Sometimes they'll show ridiculous prices due to a scheduled event. (This was happening last time I was planning a trip, and I called to ask why 2 of the 3 nights I was looking for, they were listing Dolphin standard rooms at 5 times the usual nightly rate!) They told me they do this in order to discourage bookings during conferences and other large events and that such an event was indeed scheduled for those 2 dates that were showing up at sky-high rates, although I can't begin to fathom why they don't simply block off the rooms they think they'll need in the first place, instead of pretending to offer them at prohibitive rates.

They told me the rates would drop down to the normal ones shortly beforehand, if there was availability after all the conference bookings were completed. Indeed, that happened a couple of weeks before we traveled, although by then, we'd been booked for months somewhere else and had no desire to switch.

I can't say whether what you're looking at is a similar situation, but if you really want the Swan/Dolphin, I'd suggest checking back periodically to see if the rates have gone down (or if AAA or other discounts for which you're eligible have opened up).

It’s so crazy to me that the reserve is the cheapest of the 3!! We love staying there, but will have to look elsewhere unfortunately

Exactly this. This has happened to us twice now. OP, if your heart is set on staying at Swan or Dolphin or you are willing to keep price shopping, just check prices periodically. As the dates get closer, prices may drop dramatically. This just happened to us for a trip we took last week. Swan/Dolphin rates were sky high - it was Jersey Week, Veterans Day and the Swan/Dolphin were holding a food & wine festival for which they offered attendees a discount on rooms. Lo and behold, about a week or so before the trip, the Dolphin prices dropped down to a more reasonable rate (around mod pricing).

Play with your dates a bit. Sometimes you can weed out the date they’re slammed and get a good deal other nights.

And no, the general public isn’t actually paying those rates lol. It’s a very dynamic model so if they’re mostly full the last couple rooms will price >$1k. That time of year might be a conference, might spring break crowds beat you to the punch.

^^^ This! I love playing with their "flexible dates" tool - I usually just put in a one night stay and click the box indicating my dates are flexible. I can then build multiple nights, from there, based on the rates I see per night.
