My family and I just returned from a 3 day stay at a beautiful hotel in Pigeon Forge, but it drove me crazy because of the lighting. I just couldn't see well enough to apply makeup and fix my hair. :confused3 Okay, I know many of you could care less about something so silly, but really the lighting just really got on my nerves and 3 days of it made me nuts. So the real question is do you think I could handle the lighting in Kidani? How dark is it? Any recent feedback would be greatly appreciated. We have a week long vacation scheduled there in November. I don't think I could handle a week at the place we just stayed and I'm considering a split stay now with a brighter villa.
Thanks!

Disney is saving money by switching to CF light bulbs and in some rooms the lighting is really poor. Hopefully they will act on our Satisfaction Team comments and put in some brighter lights.

Just back from a week at Kidani in a 2 br. The lighting was fine. I am visually impaired and i had no issues. The one place that DW and I thought was on the dim side was the master bathroom. A huge great space, but a little dim. Aside from that, no issues. The villa was beautiful and spacious.

Have been in Jambo but not Kidani. Jambo rooms are not brightly lighted. There is a seeming dimness to the room; if you have "older" eyesight like me it is difficult to read with the lamps they have there. In fact, the entire resort is dimly lighted. The bathroom lights are somewhat better but it is still way less than bright. If Kidani is the same, you may have issues.

We haven't stayed at Kidani yet, but the master bath in jambo is dim and with the high countertop, I couldn't get close enough to the mirror where the light was good for makeup application (so nearsighted, I'm blind as a bat without the glasses), so I had to use the full length mirror over near the dressing area in front of the door to the water closet. It does not have enough light over there, so make up application was a bit tricky. I did notice, however, that the over all lighting in the bathroom at Jambo was better this year than it was last year!

Yeah, now that I am reminded...the lighting in the Jambo House was an issue with my sister and me. Especially in the bath area, where you are trying to apply makeup. They really need brighter lights in that area, I agree.

Don't you ladies know that you aren't supposed to wear make-up at WDW?

Last year when we bought into DVC the dark lighting was the determining factor in why we chose SSR over AKV. Our guide told us that it is purposely dark because it is part of the resorts theming. The dark color of the carpets, drapes, woodwork etc. adds to the low light in the rooms.

That being said we are still hoping to stay at AKV this May.

And WHOSE rule is that???!! No one is going to keep me from wearing my sunscreen moisturizer and sunscreen foundation. I love the Mouse, but not enough to get skin cancer for.

Sunscreen isn't makeup.

Well e-x-c-u-s-e me....aren't we picky on words???

Perhaps I should have said a foundation WITH sunscreen....sorry I said "sunscreen foundation":confused3 and I do believe that foundation would count as makeup!!

Yep, that's my only problem with AKV (Jambo and Kidani)---the lighting in the bathrooms is poor for makeup application. And I wear makeup with sunscreen so I don't have to put sunscreen lotion on my face ;)

I discovered at Kidani (pool side, so west facing) that in the afternoon/evening, if I used the mirror over the desk in the master bedroom, the lighting was just fine. I suspect that if we had an east-facing villa, the lighting would have been good at that same mirror in the mornings.

But the "poor" lighting does not diminish my desire to stay at AKV in the future!

Simmer down.... I think the "no make-up" comment was simply a light hearted way to say, "You're on vacation, relax and don't worry about looking perfect". I don't think it was a blanket cancer wish for all women who visit the World.

Thank you all for your great comments! I will probably just use the other mirror like a few of you suggested-I forgot about that option.
I hate makeup and sunscreen, but unfortunately for me, it is a necessary evil.
Thanks!

Aw, come on, I never see anyone who isn't beautiful at WDW. And we go to TL and BB a lot.
