Crazy? Last minute WDW trip

I am soooooooooooooo glad you are going! As much as it is last minute, planning is part of the fun. Even if it is frantic and last minute.

We finally made the final decision to forge ahead and go on our holiday in 23 days!!!!!!!!

I am now frantically booking a a couple of park tickets, hotels for the Orlando part of our trip. I understand the stress and excitement of actually putting all the premade plans into action!!!!

That’s everyone!

Wow…can someone please explain why it’s so much work to pack and why it takes so long? I’m my mind it’s …throw some clothes in a bag and go. I had a few minor things to get done at home and by 1pm I was ready to start packing. I set myself a goal of 3pm to get finished and sit down with a cup of tea. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:That was a huge joke. I stopped at 4:30 to have that cup of tea and got back at it at 5:30. I just got back from taking the dog to Nana’s and I’m still not done. My poor girl…she knew she wasn’t t just going for a social visit. Broke my heart when she tried to open my mom’s front door.

LOL…I work in healthcare so we get tested regularly. I’ve probably had 70 or so PCR’s. Rapids…I couldn’t even count. Around Christmas they started testing everyone daily with rapids again. I think it’s made me even more paranoid. I’ve been off work now for over a week which was why I went for the travel test too.
Have a great trip! ✈️

Hi all…we made it! It was quite the travel day. We arrived at Pearson 3 hours and 15 minutes early (recommended time now is 3 hours). It’s been years since I flew to the US from there, we normally go to Buffalo, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a little extra time for clearing customs, I know it can be busy. WRONG….we walked right from the curb to a kiosk, checked in, walked right through security and customs with zero wait. Grabbed breakfast and sat down near the gate within 35 minutes of getting out of the car. I think we sat there for at least an hour before it even started to get busy and busy it really was not. Our flight had at least 50 empty seats. Arriving in Orlando we again breezed right through luggage and car rental. We were checking in at the resort 90 minutes after landing and that included a stop for food. I can recall so many times that we waited for luggage for an hour.

We went to Disney Springs last night for a couple of hours and today and today are going to MK. The weather is not so nice…it was completely overcast yesterday and stayed that way which made it feel much cooler than the 16 that my app says it is. We were rather cold and considering left home -20 it should feel almost hot. LOL…the only pants I have are the ones I wore on the plane. I brought shorts and tshirts mainly. Today is supposed to be the warmest day that we are here….there’s an over night low of -1 on Saturday. The forecast was better on Monday when we planning this trip so I’m hoping it changes again and gets a little better…otherwise I guess I’m buying a Disney wardrobe.

Buy the Disney clothes! If you make it to Epcot, the new Creations store is INCREDIBLE. So many things. I bought a 50th sweatshirt from there when we went in Jan - I did the same thing, brought warm weather clothes and it was much colder than I thought it would be!

It’s so strange it’s 19 right now….we northerners should be feeling hot. It’s actually gotten a tiny bit better as the day has gone on. The sun is trying hard to show itself.
We might go to Epcot but not until Sunday.

Hi all! We are back home waaaaay too soon. Got in last night. Whomever said we might have a good story....boy oh boy were you right. Sunday morning our car was covered in ice. It was -2 over night and for the preceding days all we heard about was frozen iguanas falling out of trees and farmers loosing there crops.

But wait, that's not even the good story part...... My DD got a POSITIVE covid test. She had booked an appointment with Curative for a 2hr PCR test for the Friday (we flew home Monday) then several hours later she gets an email from them saying that due to supply issues they are no longer able to offer this test. All tests must be sent to a lab and will take 1-2 days after the lab receives the sample to process. So she rebooks the appt for this test. I then decide that we should get a backup appointment incase something else happens and they just cancel. I book Walgreens which gives you the result in 5-6 hours. So we are covered. We go to the Curative appt and I'm not feeling confident that this is a good scenario.....we self swabbed in a tent in the parking lot of a mini golf. The woman supervising the swab tells us to only put the swab in as far as we wanted. We leave and I said to DD that we have to keep the Walgreens appt because there was no way that swab was any good. Here's where the fun begins. We go to Walgreens, also a self swab but totally different. Later that night DD gets the emailed results from Walgreens and she's positive but I'm negative. I thought I was going to barf. The freaking out begins.... I check 53 different Walgreens locations for another appt within the next 24 hours...no luck everything is full. DD is searching for what the rules are about isolating and when you can fly home. Searching for info about crossing by land with a positive. Then I get her to look up BeeperMD to see how fast they can come...which was actually 7am the next morning but a 2-4 hour result would cost $150. I don't have a local phone number to book the appt so I call them from my room to find out how I can book and if they are willing to do the test in the lobby or elsewhere rather than my room (I'm not ok with a stranger coming inside my room). Get that sorted out and then I call WDW guest services to find out if they will allow this person on the property. They tell my yes but that they have never heard of the service and recommend calling their endorsed urgent care. While all this is going on I'm trying to convince myself that everything is going to be ok. DD is saying she will be perfectly fine to stay there alone if she has to. She tells me to just go and get her some groceries before I go home. Then all of a sudden I remember that I bought insurance that will cover the costs of staying which did help me to relax a tiny bit. So I then call the WDW urgent care and they can take DD in 4 hours time which is 2am but can't tell me about cost or processing other than to say up to 3 days. I'm in such a state at this point that I just want the first available appt. So we book for 2am. She gets her test with the result in 1 hour at a cost of $175. They don't do email results so we had to go back to the car and wait. It was NEGATIVE! By the time we got back to the room it was around 4am and at least we were able to sleep.....LOL or try to sleep I was so hyped up it was nearly 5am by the time I closed my eyes. Sunday morning we finally get the Curative results and both were negative. So in a way this whole Fisher Price adventure in the middle of the night was unnecessary but I don't think I could have waited until Sunday without having a full blown panic attack.

We were somewhat certain the positive was a false positive but it's darn hard to be rational when something like is happening. The timelines just didn't add up. She had a PCR on Monday at home, then Tuesday had to get a RAT for entry to the USA. The only crowded place we were that was risky was at MK on Thursday and we got tested the next day. While we were at MK we kept our masks on at all times. Took food to secluded areas outdoors and tried to distance as best we could. Then the fact that I was negative....if she was legit positive I should have been too.

Welcome Home Hon
I am glad you are home safe and sound.
I am struggling here with people and their closeness and under the nose mask wearing so I am not sure I'd be ready for no masks yet.
I hope you got a small re charge to your well being before you have to head back to work.
Best wishes

Glad you made it back! Sounds like an adventure getting your results. Seems like you were just debating about going and you are already back... It's February (Happy Groundhog Day) already.
LOL....it went by so fast. Contemplating, booking, travel and return has all happened in the last 8 days.

This was probably the first trip that I was more than ready to come home after only 5 days. Normally even 10 days is not enough. I think the main reason though for feeling ready to come home was the cold weather. It was not pleasant and even if I had the right clothes I still would not have enjoyed it. We only had a little sun on 2 days. Of course now it's 26-28 and clear sunny skies.

I'm the same....I see someone in a store not wearing a mask and I cringe and quickly move far away. Let me tell ya'....at WDW mask wearing is not much of a thing. I was blown away to see the parks very crowded and hardly any masks. We wore ours at all times and didn't feel like we stood out but the VAST majority do not. They are required indoors but there seems to be some question as to what is considered indoors. There is zero social distancing. We got lunch from Pecos Bills and the seating area was packed just like all other times I've been in there. I couldn't believe that. We took our food outside and found a corner behind the door to the fry cart....not at all picturesque but we were able to sit there alone. After a day of people so close to me I got used to it. I still would take a round about path rather than walk right through a crowd but it bothered me less as the days went on. All things considered I'm glad we went but I suspect we won't be back until late fall at the earliest because I know we can't wear masks in the summer months. I'm also hoping to not be dealing with testing the next time we go. After the testing fiasco on this trip I don't think I'll be taking any trips until testing is no longer required. I feel rather bad about that because I've taken 2 trips and DH hasn't even had 1. He was hoping that we would rebook our Punta Cana trip for end of March or early April.

Oh.....forgot to mention that I got selected for another test when we arrived back at YYZ. So that was also fun.

Does it even make sense for one person in the group to get tested and not the other? Maybe that's their game....a sample from each group.

DD and I had a bit of a laugh talking about tests. In a seven day period we each had 5 tests. Then I went in to work yesterday to submit some paperwork for the end of the month and had to get another test because no can enter the building without one. My poor nose needs a rest.

Question though, I wondered about what would happen if you tested positive and then tested negative, I have a next day back up appointment booked just in case for many reasons, but doesn't the arrivecan app ask you if you have tested positive in the last 10 or 14 days? Did you just saying no thinking that the negative cancelled out the positive?

that's what I would do...

ArriveCan only asks if you have a negative test result. It doesn’t really ask much actually.
In my case I was rather sure that it was a false positive anyway and as long as you possess a document that says negative you are good to go. Trust me when I say I’ve read the Canadian gov website so many times that I could probably quote it. There is nothing there that says anything about this sort of situation.

I belong to lots of travel groups and there have been dozens upon dozens of stories of this very thing. People get the easy anterior nostril PCR with a pos result then go get a proper NP swab and it’s neg. The NP is the gold standard and no one will dispute the result.
