My sil and bil are flying w/ 2 kids for their 1st ever trip to WDW in early Sept. I've tried and tried to impress up on them that it's during free dinign and they MUST make ADR's. I talked to her the other day, she asked if we were set for our Dec. trip (of course) and if that meant we had all of our ADR's (of course)...I asked if she did and the ONLY one they've made is for CRT for breakfast. Do they want to eat while they are there?

To top if off, she will be 35 wks pg w/ #3 and it is going to be HOT and humid there. They are nuts. We tried to get them to go w/ us in Dec. b/c it will be us and daughter, our inlaws (grandparents to the kids) and a nephew...we are all close family and would be a huge help to them with a then 7 wk old. Nope, taking the baby sounded more miserable to them then flying down hugely pg w/ NO dining plans made.

Think they'll ever go back? I doubt it. I'm so frustrated with them!

They will be the people that say "I hated Disney, I'm never going back" It is good that they have you to guide them........even if they won't take your advice!! :goodvibes

I'm the type that this will bug me and bug me. I know they won't have fun and they will never go back b/c of this. I know they aren't the preplanning type...another reason we tried to get them to go w/ us...b/c I have it all planned (probably a reason they aren't going w/ us), but in this case, a little preplanning goes a long way! I feel like emailing her and nicely suggesting she call and just see what they can get. I've given them all sorts of suggestions as to where they can eat. I know they are busy though and are goign to wing it. I'm trying to get over it!

I hope this makes you feel better about their chances of getting a meal...

last year we made a last-minute trip to the world and it was during the first "free dining" time - we didn't have the free dining package and we didn't have any ADRs and were fine. I didn't get into everything I was interested in - but we were able to eat. It was harder than during any of our previous trips - but we did manage to feed ourselves  LOL

I'm not a planner.. but I'm enough of a disney-pro to know which places and times to avoid... hopefully your VERY pregnant sis-in-law will be able to get into some restaurants just by looking pregnant and hungry! LOL

I know this is probably the wrong thing to do or to suggest. But....

How about if you call up and make a few reservations for them. Then on the second day of thier trip after they see how hard it is to get a TS meal give them the reservation numbers, places and times. If they want them great and if not you can cancel at that point.

It just might be the pixie dust they need to make this a good trip.

I'm more concerned that she'll be 35 weeks pregnant and flying! Is her doctor ok with this? Most airlines will require a doctor's note for her to even get on the plane. Yikes!

I know this sounds unreal but we leave next week, and I made most of our ADRs last week!! I had wanted Boma and CRT, but couldnt get an ADR earlier so I called last week and they had them!

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. I was in the Mk last July and a man was ripping into the cm at the front desk of Tony's because the wait time was 1 hour and he couldn't get a meal for his pregnant wife. Not a pretty site.

We also went last year during free dining and made no ADR's and had NO problem finding somewhere we wanted to eat. Now we didnt care to do CRT, so not getting an ADR there was fine. But we ate at some great places that were half full (Concourse).

I kinda have to agree with this. I called yesterday to change a couple of ADR's and had no trouble at all, one was for the Kona Cafe at 6:30pm, and the other was for Artist point at 7pm, all during our trip in Sept. So I think that some people have either cancelled their trip at the 45 day mark, or it really isn't as busy as some have eluded to. Either way, I am sure if she talks with some one at her resort they can help her with making arrangements for reservations somewhere.

Good Luck, I too am much the planner in my family, and can identify with your frustration...I have a sister very much like that (not a planner at all...wings it every time...she by the way, says she hates Disney and will never go back...she is one of those!!! :) )

Have fun in your December trip! :goodvibes

When I am in the parks, I don't want to go to a sit down resturant, I would rather eat at a counter serve and spend the other time on the rides and shows....

Not everyone wants to sit down to eat...

But if they have the dining package which includes the sit-down meal, they will probably want to take advantage of it unless they want to pay OOP and negate the value of free dining.

And believe me, at 35 weeks pregnant you want to sit down.

I was thinking the same thing. :thumbsup2

The way I read the OP it was during free dining not that they had free dinining. If you have free dining, then the ADR's would be smart, but if not, why not avoid the crowd...

I just got back from 5 days there, it was solo as it was also a 7 day business trip with the meetings at WDW, but I didn't go to a TS resturant once. IN FACT I liked Peco's Bills so much I went back 3 times, twice for dinner and once for lunch. Got to try their whole Menu I think :)

I was thinking the same thing. Airlines do NOT allow you to travel past a certain point in your pregnancy, and I'm fairly certain 35 weeks is past that point. Maybe they need to rethink their timing.

I couldn't tell whether they actually have the dining plan or not. If not, you are right, you wouldn't need to go to table service restaurants. It's not like there isn't seating at counter service places if some rest time is needed.

That's funny, I thought about doing that! They'd never call and check in though for me to tell them. I hope I'm wrong and they can find some places to eat and have fun...that is part of the experience!

It's not going to be a big problem, she IS an ob/gyn. I do think she has a doctor technically that will deliver her (one of her parteners, I think), but guess she could just write her own note! They also defended them going thsi late in the pregnancy by saying they went to Mexico at this time w/ #1...I reminded them that I betted they didn't walk for hours a day in Mexico but laid on a beach the whole time.

OP-Do they have the free dining or are they going without a package?

they do have the package. Maybe everyone is right, maybe they will find plenty to eat! Maybe I shouldn't worry about them so much...and mind my own business! :rotfl:

I just know they'll pick a place, walk up, find out it's a huge wait and go eat "another" hot dog somewhere when they could have planned ahead a little and had an even better time. And, maybe go back sometime!

Maybe I'll be wrong!
