Crazy Idea Have You Done This?

I was thinking of watching the weather and if there is a nice 80 degree weekend in Orlando picking the kids up from school and DH from work and head to WDW. We are still 8hrs away so it still takes a little time to get there and back. I don't want to pull the kids out of school they have had so many snowdays the teachers are pushing them along so as not to get to far behind. We would wind up in WDW around 8:00-9:00 on Friday and would have to leave on Sunday around 12:00-1:00.

Would you spend Sat. in one park (they'll pick MK) or would you park hop between 2 or 3 parks (I'm not sure with reduced hours if you could really do all 4)?

On Sun. morning we'll probably do a character breakfast or swim What do you think?

I have thought of doing the same thing before except my kids are not in school yet but DW is. I say go for it.

We live too far away for that, but if we lived closer I would definitely go. Have you been before? If this is your first time it may be overwhelming for one day. We went for four days our first time and vowed to go much longer our next. It was just too much fun to want to leave and hard to decide what to do in limited time. If you did Animal Kingdom or MGM then I would say park hop but if you do MK you should probably just stick to that one. It all depends on whether you have been before, how old your kids are, and what they like the best. Have a great time whatever you choose!

Just a bit of advice, the most crowded day at MK is Saturday, why not do another park, then swim and dine, and hit MK on Sunday?

Since we generally have AP's, i would do this in a heart beat if we lived closer. (our trip is double what yours is at 16 hours one way.)

Strap the camper on (we always keep it ready to pull out at a moment's notice) pack a few clean unders and a few outfits and take off! Pull into FW and take whatever site they have. Unfold that camper in about 15 min and then head for MK!

Sigh! I gotta move further south!

We travel a little less than 8 hours for other weekend trips, so doing so for a quick swing thru WDW would definately be worth it in my book.

I agree...Go For It! If we lived close enough to do that I would love it...it's a 24 hour drive for us. Go and Have Fun!

We did just this in 9/01, except that we flew down. We needed a break from everything going on back then, and decided to just do it. Made the arrangments one week ahead of time. We got there Friday morning, left Sunday afternoon. We had one of our best trips ever. We did the MK Friday afternoon, Epcot that evening. Saturday was MGM, then back to MK and Epcot on Sunday before we left. Because it was unexpected, we didn't have time to build up any expectations of what we'd be doing. We just got in as much as we could and didn't worry about what we were missing.

This would be our 5th trip since '97. We've been to the all the parks and have done everything in the parks thats why hopping on Sat. might be fun but I wasn't sure if we would lose to much time traveling between parks. If we do this I will seek advice and plan the quickest route to each and in what order. We can't hit the parks on Sun. there is not enough time we'll be using left over hopper passes with only one day left.

I was thinking about a character breakfast Sun. before we leave.

What does everyone think about staying at the Grosvenor for this trip that way Fri night when we check in will be right DTD? We always stay on property so this makes me a little nervous.

From what I read on these boards (after doing a search on Grosvenor) I decided not to book it. We will do a couple of nights at AS Music our first weekend and then move offsite since DH is there for business anyway.

Do a search and read up on it (if you haven't already)...a lot of mixed reviews, but enough bad ones to make me stay away.

I'm not familiar with them but in my book on-site is the way to go. Espeially now - checkout mousesavers.com for special discounts and you can get a real steal on-site with extra magic hours.

If the weekend getaway from usair comes with MCO on it, I might join you!

We live 9 hours from Disney and did a quick weekend trip in September with only 1 day left on our park hoppers. We made a list of our favorite attractions from each park and managed to go to all 4 parks and do all the attractions on our list plus a few more in just one day. We had a blast and now that we have APs we will do it more often

We stayed at Grosvenor last trip and it was ok. The room was large and clean although it needed rehabbed 9 which I think they all have been now). All rooms have a fridge which is nice ad handy. Location is great ( walk to DTD) and the price is usually right. For the amount of time you will be there I'd say book it. I have stayed at a lot of hotels in my life ( we show horses and travel a lot) and this one was better than average in my opinion.
