Crazy crowds on 10/6 - why???

We weren't here for the GayDays weekend, as I figured it would be busier than normal.

TBH, the main reason for the crowds as best I can tell is all of us Aussie / NZ holiday-makers who are here for our school holidays. I kid you not, I would say at least 1 in 3 people i hear / talk to are fellow Aussies like ourselves. Our schools go back next week - our last day here is Thursday.

We arrived back in DL this afternoon, and crowds were similar to last week - most rides only a 2-5 minute wait. Not sure if that was to do with the weather though, as well.

I won't be able to report back until we get back home later in the week, but I'm willing to bet that next week crowd levels will be back to lower than average.

Hound you posted a reply a couple of weeks back in regards to someone asking what days of the week were least crowded and you mentioned a Monday being one of them...I replied to your post that it hasnt been like that for quite a while....Fri-Mon. are typical weekends for people now...moday being as bad as friday...the only thing I havent figured out quite is why Sunday is not always as crowded as the other weekend days...working on that one....

The post from a couple of weeks ago wasn't about what day is "least crowded"....it was about what day is best to go (if one doesn't have MM). :)

We get alot of WDW vets who post & say they "only have a day & want to see DLR & DLR only rides.....what day is best?".

After telling them to consider 2+ days, I also think that the MM days aren't good since if they arrive after MM, FL is jammed.....which is where the Wednesday & Monday recommendations came from.

But you're right.....it sounds like Monday is not normally a good day to go if one wants to avoid crowds. :thumbsup2

Wow, I had no idea. I am going for the first time on Oct 19 for 4 days and I picked October specifically because I thought it would be less crowded. I am so upset now to hear that's not the case. :sad2:

We were there/here yesterday (10/7) and today (10/8)....I was expecting the worst....I didnt think it was that bad.

Yesterday afternoon about 2ish, Pirates had a 15 minute wait (although it seemed much quicker) HM had a 20 minute wait (again, seemed much quicker). Splash was really long...didnt make it to DCA our first day.

Today we started in DCA. I knew right away that I wanted to make a beeline for TSM...umm...so did everyone else. We ended up going through by Grizzly River Run as opposed to the other way.

DH took one look at the line and his jaw dropped. It was enormous!!! BUT....again, moved faster than I had thought it would.

We took advantage of both fast passes and baby swapping. Which if you have the option to do, I highly recommend it!! 99% of the time after one adult was done on a ride, the other basically just went up the exit of the ride and handed over the fast pass and was almost immediatley boarded. the only time this didnt work was on California Screamin. When the CM told us we had to go back to the fast pass line (which we already had fast passes for so it defeated the purpose of the baby swap).

Space Mountain was down this afternoon, not sure why.

Like I said, I didnt really think it was that bad, but then again I dont come very often. I prepared myself for the worst though.

We have year round school in some parts of Tennessee. We start Aug. 1st and have a 2 week fall break in Oct. (first two full weeks in Oct.)
We are thinking of coming next Oct. for fall break. I hope it is no worse than WDW in Oct.

We were there the previous Monday (9/29) and it was crazy busy then too...far busier than it had been on the two preceding weekend days. We were surprised.

I will be going tomorrow, along with hubby and son. We live in So. Cal. and just bought annual passes, so we figured we would head down tomorrow and activate them, wander around for a while, and then head to dinner at Storytellers (my son needs a ribs fix).

We'll be back in a few weeks for my birthday (also on a holiday week-end) and don't want the hassle of dealing with the new passes then. Hope it won't be too crowded, but that's what's great about the passport, you don't feel like you HAVE to stay for hours when it is jam packed. I'm not surprised about Mondays being busier than they used to be. About half the people in my office have the flex days on Monday, and half on Friday.
:dance3:
