Crayon in the dryer...

It was only a matter of time really. I've washed countless legos, rocks, and kleenexes (of course!). I've even washed a tube or two of Chapstick and we had a chocolate egg go through a week or two ago.
But today...I opened up the dryer door and there it was...The blue wrapper with the unmistakable Crayola wavy lines around it. And the wrapper was empty. "Could luck be with me today?" I wondered, as I hoped to find an intact crayon or perhaps the crayon wrapper was empty when the child put it in their pocket!!!
But, alas, no. We have many turquiose blue spotted gray sweatshirts, tee-shirts, jammies and sweatpants.
GRRR! I've told both kids that they can't put ANYTHING in their pockets from now on.
The drycleaners said they can probably take it out so I guess I'll make a trip there tomorrow.

So sorry. Someone else here had this problem last week, and another kind soul posted the following link. I bookmarked it, because I figured it was just a matter of time before I needed it! Seems like a lot of work, but better than buying a new wardrobe!

then follow the link for clothes and fabric. There is one specifically for crayon in the dryer.

I did the red crayon last week.

I did what the crayon site recomended....sprayed the spots with WD-40, used detergent and rewashed everything. Most of the spots came out.

I used dye remover on the socks, undies, and a few towels...I used a pot on the stove and it got most of it out, but it was kind of stinky. Some of the spots changed from red to light yellow, and I would not recomend the dye remover for anything other than white clothes.

Soaked everything in Oxyclean and Tide overnight.

Also, use nail polish remover to clean your dryer. (Suggested by the laundromat guy)

I washed my almost brand new white sweater set with something black. It was streaked with gray and dinge. I washed it in bleach and it was still discolored. I then soaked it in a more consentrated bleach solution and it yellowed.I drove to five different stores to find dye remover and found a product that said "whitener" but no dye remover. It didn't work. I decided to bite the bullet and bought a replacement. I had to go to two different malls to do that because they didn't have my size at the first Filenes. Then yesterday I am grocery shopping and I found Carbona Run Remover. I soaked the things over night and I think they are white again. I will wait until they are totally dry (drying on a sweater rack) and take them into the bright sun shine. Also have to make sure I didn't shrink them. I was resigned to buying a packet of rit dye and dying them black or blue. If they are okay, I will return the replacement. I haven't had a laundry disaster in ages. That's what happens when you hurry.

I did that with a pack of GLITTER crayons! :( It was so bad we had to replace the dryer...nobody was happy about that! (I check every single pocket now...that was an expensive lesson to learn..)

Good luck!!! :)

Actually there was very little crayon in the dryer itself and it was still warm so I just scraped it off. The clothes are a mess though! I'm taking them to the dry cleaner today. I'm afraid to try anything and make it worse.

Oh gosh, that just happened to me yesterday! My son had a green crayon in his pocket. Fortunately it was a load of the kids' jeans. So now, everywhere that the jeans were faded there is a green "wash" look to them. It's kind of cool actually, but my 12 year old daughter isn't too happy. Do you think the color will fade out eventually?

You poor thing! Right before we left for spring break I washed one last load of jeans...the jeans that had a pocket full of chocolate kisses...they make it though the washer just fine...but the dryer...warm chocolate everywhere.
