Was thrilled to see that Crash won best picture. The momentum has really been building the past few weeks for this film. Everything else I guess was expected, Philip seymour Hoffman, Reese Witherspoon, Rachel Weisz and George Clooney. The only thing I thought was missing was the tributes to the passing of Jack Wild, Don Knotts, and Darren McGavin. Jack Wild was nominated when he was 16 for an Oscar for "Oliver" and Darren McGavin was great in The "Christmas story", and Don Knotts will always be a favorite, he was my husbands hero from "The Incredible Mr. Limpett" and the Andy Griffith show. Maybe they will mention them next year.

Good! I like this movie. I didn't get to see the awards :(

Thanks

I was thrilled to hear "Crash" won Best Picture. It was an awesome movie and hauntingly disturbing. Congrats!

I guess it baffles me why the online entertainment and news services are calling Crash's win for Best Picture to be an "upset". :confused3

I know that Brokeback Mountain was heavily hyped, but just because you have a good PR firm and many people angling for your win that doesn't mean that it's automatically going to come your way. Crash was a great movie as well.

Crash really opened my eyes and made me explore some things within myself. Some say the movie was heavy-handed. I think it was just right. I was glad to see it win Best Picture.

It was a well deserved win for a picture that makes you think and cry with sorrow at what we think we have conquered but have not. Racism is ugly it makes everything it touches ugly too.

:thumbsup2 Hooray for Crash :thumbsup2

I predicted to my friends that it would be the surprise win, and I am so tickled! The best movie of the year!

I believe they honor them according to calendar year. All the ones we saw were those who passed in 2005 and those 3 will be honored at the 2007 ceremony.

I thought Crash was a good movie but Brokeback would have received my vote as best picture.

I have no interest in seeing Brokeback Mountain. It's not the gay thing at all. It's the cowboys. I don't care what the stories about put it in the venacular of a cowboys movie and I am not interested. I have never been interested in cowboy movies of any stripe. I don't know why I am not interested either I have nothing against cowboys but something about it puts me off. Weird huh?

Crash was an awesome movie!

I tell everyone I know about it, because it didn't get that much publicity when it was out, I can't talk anyone into it. Hopefully the Oscar will help.

Congrats to Crash! :thumbsup2

I absolutely loved Crash and thought it was very thought provoking. It didnt hurt that Matt Dillon and Ryan Philippe were in it either! LOL. I am so happy for them that they caused an upset!

I haven't seen Crash and have NO desire to see Brokeback. BUT, I am glad it won, and I love Phillip Seymor Hoffman, he is a great actor. ;)

Thanks Kimya, I guess I was confused because I saw Chris Penn in the memorial, and thought he just passed away recently.

DH and I had this same conversation last night and we thought the same thing about the deaths (must be by calendar year) but I just looked it up and Chris Penn died January 24th. I think it was just too soon to get the montages of those 3 up yet... It'll be a reminder next year I guess.
And yeah for Crash, I thought it was great. Reminded me a little of Grand Canyon.

I thought that it was kind of cute that Reese and (essentially) Ryan were both nominated and won. I wonder if he gets a statue, too. Or is it only the producers who get one if the movie wins best picture.
