Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Girl On Disney Cruise

POSTED: 4:42 pm EST January 4, 2007
UPDATED: 5:24 pm EST January 4, 2007

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Eyewitness News has learned a man is under arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl on a Disney cruise ship. The suspect is behind bars in the Bahamas.

The Disney Wonder is getting ready to disembark on it's next voyage to the Bahamas after it arrived back in Central Florida on Thursday morning. It arrived without a passenger from New York, a man who is now in jail awaiting arraignment on sex charges.

Cast members aboard the Disney Wonder prepared the ship for another voyage to the Bahamas after what turned out to be a troubling trip for one family. Investigators with the Bahamian police said, on New Year’s Day, while the ship was in international waters, a 21-year-old passenger, Lucas George Wicker, sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl.

A spokesperson for the cruise line said the allegations were first reported to security personnel on the ship, who immediately notified the FBI. The spokesperson said the FBI gave them guidance on what do while they were still at sea and, when the ship arrived in Nassau on Tuesday, the Bahamian police took over the investigation.

Investigators said Wickers told the girl he wanted to show her "something" on a lower deck and, when she refused to go with him, he threatened to throw her overboard. Police wouldn't say where on the ship the alleged sexual assault occurred.

A spokesperson for the FBI said they were assisting the Bahamian police in their investigation.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the cruise line said the safety and security of the guests is their top priority and that they were working with law enforcement.

The victim is apparently a Canadian citizen who lives in the United States with her parents.

Police said Wickers was being held in jail until his arraignment.

HI, guys!

What a crazy thing to return back to! That would definitely explain why we left the Bahamas late (2 or 3 hours after we were supposed to)! I have to say, there were a lot of teens, and "frat guy" types on this cruise. It seemed strange to have so many of that "spring break" type group.

I had a wonderful time, had awesome table mates, excellent CM"s and I had a great time, but that's a scary, scary thing! I would like to know where on the ship this happened. I will report more later, and some pics of Cosmo. I spent approximately what I earn per day on alcohol per day on the Cruise, so I'm hurting right now. Plus, I haven't drank in so long . . . Oh well, I'm back to work. Heigh, ho, heigh ho . . .

I'm glad you had a wonderful time!!!! Can't wait to hear more about it. We missed you.

Yay, Lulu's home. We missed you. I didn't even put 2 and 2 together with the Wonder incident and your cruise. Spring break type kids does sound strange.

Welcome back LuLu. When my mom posted that news story, I was wondering if that was the cruise you were on. How very sad for the girl and her parents. Can't wait to hear more about your trip.

It is snowing here again today. We are supose to get 4-8 inches. It was snowing like crazy at my house when I left for work and as I moved North the snow slowed down. Looking out my window it looks like it has picked up as well here now. I want it to stop snowing early so that my dad and I can go skiing tomorrow.

Heidi, OMG, they closed Douglas County schools today so I get Noah, too. I heard that the south part of Jefferson County is to get more than up North and in Denver. We are pretty much SOUTH! Oh, and dad is thinking about snowplowing that would mean no skiing. Call him and sweet talk him but call me first.

BTW Stephanie it's nice to have another texan on our thread. It's flat here too, but that's okay. My BIL & SIL live in McKinney.

Nice to meet you!! :goodvibes
There's not a *hand shaking* smilie otherwise I would have inserted one! ;) I have a couple of good friends in Houston -- and a friend that I made on the DIS getting ready for our 10nt cruise! Her sister lives just a couple of miles from my house so, I've seen her since the cruise, too!

I wasn't surprised, based on my answers to the questions, but Epcot isn't my favorite park...so, I guess I don't love myself!

I'm not surprised that you are that busy now. It seems like everyone I know want their taxes done sooner rather than later.

We try to get ours done (or at least sent) on the very last week..... :) No since in the gov't having our money any sooner then we have to give it to them! :rotfl2:

Did Heidi or I ever tell you guys about Stephanie? She cruised with us on the 10 day Wonder. A sweet lady with a sweet family.

Thank you, Sandy!

Did you notice how I had no problem barging in on y'alls thread? :rotfl: :rotfl:

I want ice cream for dinner!!! I'm telling Chris that is what I am making for dinner...problem is he would agree!!!! I love soups and I love ice cream, so what's better than that!!!

Chris and I finally decided that we are going to wait and get married in summer of 2008. August 2007 is just not possible at all.

I want ice cream for dinner too!!!! I have a funny story. A few years ago my parents watched the kids for a week while we went on vacation by ourselves. My folks had given us a week at their time share and we ended up going to Williamsburg. So, we had been out all day and get back to the condo around 5 or so, we weren't ready to go to dinner yet so I suggested having some of the icecream we had bought. DH started getting the bowls out and I said no, let's just eat out of the carton. He was totally shocked that I suggested that and was as excited as a kid. :)

It is probably good that you are waiting until next summer to get married. It would be harder to get it all together for this summer. It can be done though. My brother met his wife just before Thanksgiving, proposed New Year's Eve and they were married in April. :scared1: THey have been married now either 12 or 13 years. :)

I don't have much time. I am so busy at work already. Just wanted to say hi. Aerial says when her throat is better she wants Sushi. :rotfl:

Yuck, sushi. Well, I have never actually tried it, but I took several microbiology courses in college and just can't get over it. :)

Stephanie, you and Marcie are prime examples of friendly people from TX! Ted and I are actually thinking about going to TX maybe in the Spring. Our friend that lives there had polio as a child and had a difficult time getting around. Well, he just fell in Houston and hurt his GOOD knee. He had to have surgery. He isn't getting around at all now. He is in a wheelchair and sounds VERY down. They said that they will talk about therapy later. Hmmm, talk about??? Our friends are concerned over that statement.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. I will keep him in my thoughts.

This is me:

I was Magic Kingdom also. I wasn't very surprised by my results. That place makes me so happy. When we went last summer with my extended family they were all laughing at Rachel and I because we were dancing and singing on our way up to the gates. :)

Welcome to the thread! :wave2: :welcome:

I think my cousin just moved to Arlington. I seem to remember reading that in her Christmas card this year.

Welcome back Lulu! Can't wait to see pictures!

The snow really needs to STOP!!!!!!!! I don't want to shovel. I don't know where I am going to put the snow. :sad2: The kids have both been invited to spend the night at a friend's house tonight so I HAVE to be able to get them there. ;)

Cristi, you are really cracking me up. Quoting so much. Guess you stayed away too long. This snow is driving me nuts. I have an extra kid today. He is out of school because Douglas County closed. Ok, so I am the kind of person that cries leaving Magic Kingdom for the last time on each vacation. That's the truth!

You know Jrsy, Epcot doesn't surprise me for you! I am however surprised that you were.

Yeah, I can't stay away so long. It took a while to get caught up. I really am liking the multi quote feature though. :)

My kids don't start back to school until next Tuesday. It seems like they have been out forever! I think it is the fact that we were all stuck in the house so much with the blizzards. Even the kids said that they can't wait to go back to school. Rachel said that she understood why sometimes I say I need to go do something without them. She said that she loves us, but she really needs to get away for a little bit. :)

It didn't surprise me either, Jrsy

. I have to say when we went to WDW 2 years ago, I had never gone to MGM studios and that was the park I was most excited about. But, I was sick and a little disappointed. Probably mostly because I was sick. Animal Kingdom has been my fav park as an adult. Still, when I asked my family what park they thought I would be they said MGM. So, I guess I gotta face it that I AM MGM Studio's. :rotfl:

Okay back to work. I have to work a few hours tomorrow and then next Saturday the big OT begins. :confused3

I think the more Sake u drink the better the sushi can be. lol

Seriously it all depends on fresh products and a great Sushi Chef.
