This is from my DH who bought a new leaf blower yesterday from Sears and has had nothing but trouble. If anyone has any suggestions, we would greatly appreaciate it. He posted this on a Fix-it website as well but we get so much more traffic here.

Thank you.

So yesterday I bought a 32cc 4 Cycle Craftsman Backpack Leaf Blower. I took it home. Put it together. Put in the oil that came with it and gassed it up. After 10 minutes of usage... the blower shut off and the starter rope became frozen and would not move an inch. Would not budge. I took the blower back today. They gave me a new one. I get home today.... go thru the same set up. Gas it up and put the oil in. This time 45 minutes into the same exact thing happens. Any idea what the story is? Did I get 2 bad units? Seems pretty crazy. Any insight would be much appreciated.

We bought a Sears gasoline powered weedwacker back in the late 80's that also had a problem with the starter rope, took it back, that one failed the same way, so we got our money back and don't buy any Sears brand motorized products to this day. "Fooled me once, etc." ;)

Their non-powered tools are just fine.

You did not mix the gas and oil correctly? :confused3

This was my initial thought.

The oil gets mixed with the gas first (in the gas can), then the gas goes into the blower gas tank. It sounds like the engine piston is seizing due to lack of lubrication.

The OP said it was a 4 cycle engine which does not have the gas and oil mixed together.

Not that I know a thing about this, but I do know my DH has a special gas can that is sued to fill only the leaf blower and weed whacker because it has the proper oil/gas mix in it. he mixes it in the can and then puts it into the machine. Regular unleaded gas from the gas station and some kind of special oil, which I assume is made for power tools? And there is some type of proportion... so much gas to so much oil.

Hopefully he did not mix the gas and oil together.... It says it is a 4cycle, it should not be mixed. On a side note, I wouldn't buy a Craftsman... They use to make a quality product, but not anymore. Heck, I still have a 20 yr old chainsaw that is still going....

Nice catch....my apologies for the misleading advice.:guilty:

Sounds like a chronic problem with that model. (Cop out response.)
