I have been trying to phase HFC out of our diet as much as possible. I'm having a really hard time finding crackers (like ritz) and animal crackers without it. any suggestions?
If you have Safeway, their O Organics line has a ritz-type and a wheat thins-type cracker. I hear Albertsons has a nice line of organic food, so they might have that sort as well. Basically, if you go organic you won't get the HFCS. (for us, since we have to avoid corn syrup and cs solids as well, we still have to read labels b/c you can get organic cs and cssolids)
At TJs, do read ingredients. They aren't totally pure there, and I've been surprised by ingredients quite often there...
It can be kind of tricky to find and you really have to read the labels...we like Back to Nature brand...some Wal-Marts seem to carry them as do our other local markets. Amazon carries them, but you have to buy quantity of them. Trader Joes has some great ones too that have no HFCS in them if that's an option where you live. We like all of the late July organic products too.
thanks all! I don't have a safeway, but do have trader joes and costco, so will look into those this weekend. I love kashi products, but kids really love ritz type crackers and they don't make anything like that, do they?
Wheat Thins no longer have HFCS! Nabisco isn't advertising the change for fear of implying that their many products still containing HFCS are undesirable, so you have to read the box to notice. Since I never did find an acceptable alternative that wasn't stupid-hard for us to get (Trader Joes has a decent Club-type cracker, but the closest TJs is about 35 miles from our house), I am absolutely thrilled with HFCS-free Wheat Thins.
The Back To Nature Classic Rounds taste a lot like Ritz - especially if you haven't had the Ritz in a while. We buy ours at Whole Foods, but I have seen BTN products at our Target and our local grocery stores.

good to know about wheat thins! not that I can buy them. they are one of my don't-keep-in-the-house foods. lol. seriously, I am not a chip eater, but wheat things and me are not good together...one is too many, 100 not enough.

went to costco today and picked up a thing of the disney organic animal cookies. they are so cute! hope the kids like them.
also picked up some kashi wheat-thin like crackers at target over the weekend. I know wheat thins are now hfc free but the kashi ones had less sodium/more nutrients, and omg, they are soooo good!!!! highly recommend. also picked up kashi cereal bars. my kids love the nutri grain ones as a snack from time to time and of course they have hfc. kashi ones are another big hit.
