I just realized that I am developing cracked heels. Before I go buy a bunch of products that may or may not work I'm looking for recommendations on here. Any home remedies?

One method my mom swore by was softening your heels up in a bath, then covering her heel in something called Bag Balm (it's basically udder moisturizer for cows XD but lots of humans use it). Then she would wrap her foot up in a plastic bag, leaving it to soak in over night. It wasn't immediate but after awhile it seemed to work really well and make lotion regiments work better for every day.

Old-style remedy: apply vaseline to cracked heels before bed, put on a pair of cotton socks--sleep in the socks. Repeat as needed.

I use Aquaphor. Comes in a round tub like vaseline (Walmart usually the cheapest, maybe $6-7?) It is my go to product. I use a pumice stone on my heels before showering if they are getting bad, and then put the aquaphor on before my socks if I am in gym shoes that day. I thought it would feel greasy/icky, but I do not notice it at all. I also use aquaphotr for chapped lips, any vaseline type issue...for me it works far better than any product I have tried.

I tried everything before I found Avon Cracked heel repair. It has completely solved my heel cracking--and it was really bad.

I read in a magazine once that a hand and foot model reported that she always used vaseline then covered her feet with saran wrap. This works the absolute best for me if I soak first, use a callous remover (I purchase it at Sally's beauty supply), then use a foot file to remove the dry skin before coating my feet in vaseline, wrapping in saran wrap, then a pair of socks. I do this before bed and leave it on all night. It works complete wonders! If I keep up with using a moisturizer every night then they stay soft for a while. I wear flip flops pretty much year round so it takes a toll on my heels.

I also recently found cocoa butter vaseline that has become my new favorite! I smells heavenly and it is a bit creamier than normal vaseline.

Burt's Bee's makes a wonderful coconut foot balm that heeled my cracked heels and it smells really good too!!!!!!!!

I get awful heel problems since I wear flip flops 90% of the year. The best thing I have every done for myself was to get a pedicure whenever mine start to crack. I bought one of the razors to do it myself also, and my dermatologist gave me an Rx for a salicylic acid lotion. Not sure if its also sold OTC but you might check.

Vaseline on your heels at night with a pair of socks on. Then use olive oil as a lotion. It will keep your skin nice and smooth!

I get a pedicure every 4 to 6 weeks. However I have a horrible problem with cracked heels. Always have....... until recently. The girl that last did my pedi told me to coat the bottom of my feet with vasoline and wear thick socks to bed. She told me to do them every night for one week and see what a difference it makes. I saw big improvements. Now I do it every other night or 3 times a week. SOOOOOOO much better. I can't wait to get my next one so she can see. LOL She always does the callus remover/scraper on me at the salon and no matter how much lotion I put on every night....it never worked. I tried some creams made for the problem too and nothing ever worked. SO now I just use cheap vasoline and my heals are soooooooooo much better.

First, get a pumice stone and work the heel area every night. You have to remove as much of the dead skin as possible in order for the foot cream to penetrate into the skin.

My DH suffers from cracked skin in the heels, especially during the dry winter months. He applies Eucerin Dry Skin Intensive Foot Cream and wears gel socks at night so that his feet don't rub on the sheets (which can be painful). The socks only cover the heel and the back half of the foot, so your feet don't get too hot.
