Is this just a Philly thing, or does everyone eat it?

I certainly don't eat them together but I do eat them separately.

I had never heard of eating crabs & spaghetti at the same time until I met my DH. His mother is Italian and when the boys or neighbors went crabbing, she'd always get some and that would be one way she'd serve them.

She'd let the crabs cook in the sauce (or gravy as they call it) for hours and hours. It gives the sauce a nice sweet seafood flavor, but not overly so.

They'd pick the meat out of the crabs and alternate eating the meat and the spaghetti. It's quite messy, but very delish!

My dad ADORED crabs in spaghetti sauce....just adored it. He'd bring home a bushel of crabs from the shore and some would be cooked with garlic and olive oil and some in spaghetti sauce. Put the newspaper on the table, get out the picks and nutcrackers and roll up your sleeves!

Sounds exactly like my ex-in-laws. When I was married, every Sunday we had dinner at my wife's parent's house. About once every month or so we would have crabs and spaghetti. I didn't care too much for having to work so hard to get the meat out of the crabs but the gravy was awesome!

My DH sometimes makes spaghetti with imitation crabmeat in the sauce...I'm sure it's not as good as the real thing, but it's very yummy!

I live just north of Philly and have never heard of it
sounds like an Italian thing
I'm not Italian ?
It sounds kinda good but I've never had it

Yep, grew up having this. Whenever we had leftover crabs my grandmother would freeze them and use them for in spaghetti. Very messy though.

My Italian Grandmother made crabs that way once. It was very good.

Here in Italy it is very common to eat crabs (and other shellfish combined) in pasta....it is one of my favorites. They usually have crab legs, mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp and sometimes octopus.....it is very yummy!
