This is unreal. I can't believe this neighbor called the cops over this.

Apology Given for Lemonade Stand Closing

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis health commissioner has apologized for the temporary shutdown of a children's lemonade stand.

A neighbor who was unhappy about the little business blocking her walkway called in the authorities. The young entrepreneurs, two 7th-grade girls, were told they needed permits and were forced to close their business.

As it turned out, lemonade stands are exempt from such bureaucratic requirements.

Mim Murray, who is ten years old, and her 12-year-partner Marisa Miller-Stockie reopened yesterday.

The lemonade stand business is booming.

 Why couldn't the neighbor just go over and ask the girls or their parents to move? What's wrong with people?!

I agree with you Steph - totally unreal.

That doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not sure what area of town this happened, but some people can be very snooty when it comes to things like that. What does surprise me is that it happened in my city and I heard about it here first.

A 10 year old isn't in 7th grade.

I'm glad I've always had wonderful neighbors. Our retired neighbor behind us take my son everywhere when their grandson is over, they feed him for weeks at a time! Our other retired neighbors have a key and take care of our velcro dog whenever we are away and let him out every day when I work during the school year. I love all my neighbors.

It makes you wonder how unhappy this person must be to spread her unhappiness to kids! I'm glad they were able to open again, and I hope the offending neighbor took her lumps.

Totally unbelieveable!

She could very well be in 7th grade. When I was younger than that my teachers pressed for me to be moved up more than one grade. My parents were concerned about socialization though, so I stayed where I was until later (when I skipped grade 9).

I guess it also depends on when her birthday is - thanks to having a late summer birthday I actually graduated high school at 16.

Is there anything that said they hadn't already been asked to move? We have some kids in the neighborhood who have had multiple people call the police on them over the years - granted it wasn't over lemonade stands, but there could be more to the story.
