Crab cakes at the World?

I'm nuts about crab cakes... I worked at a restaurant that had a crab cake sandwich at lunch and now I work at one that serves an appetizer portion. Both were made with real meat... I would give any of the Disney restaurants' CCs a try.

I am a HUGE crab cake fan. Lobster and Crap Cakes are two of my favorite foods. That being said, not all crap cakes are equal. I don't usually love fried cakes, I like them broiled...

But please, please, please do yourself a FAVOR and have the crab cakes at Narcoossee's. I had this last time and it was so good. The lumps of crab meat were almost falling apart from the breading and you could feel the juices explode in your mouth. i took pictures too. If I can figure out how to upload them I will.

I think you should try the ones at citrico's. Citrico's is at the same resort as Narcoossee's and shares a kitchen (I think I remember being told this) with Victoria and Alberts. I had the most amazing crab stuffed squash blossom at Victoria and Alberts so Citrico's would have to be good!!!!

In the spirit of the OP's question and just for the record--I've had the crabcakes at Narcoossee's, Flying Fish, Fulton's and Citricos. Of that group, the only ones that even remotely resemble the real thing were at Citricos.

I'm happy I read this thread but not for the same reason as most, LOL. I don't like 'real' crab cakes, the Maryland kind, Old Bay, broiled, all that. I like the ones that are breaded and fried with not too big pieces in them. It sounds like WDW crab cakes are just right for me, LOL. :thumbsup2

Don't try the one at Flying Fish then. Others might disagree, but it did have large whole pieces of crab with very little breadcrumb filler. It did have a very nice cruchy exterior of fried breading though.

Another Marylander....you can order crab cakes from a particular web-site...but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it...
I've never been anywhere that made a crab cake like my mom's.....
However, I thought the appetizer at the Flying fish was not bad.....not authentic MD style...but a good crab cake.
take care

I had the ones at Kona, they were the claw meat variety. But, I enjoyed them. I dont know about old bay anymore. When I was growing up my mother put this on everything, now I detest the taste. I rather a crab cake without old bay. When I steam whole crabs, it is guiness, all the way, with seasonings. But, never old bay:eek: I believe I ate more than my share.

I grew up eating steamed crabs that we pulled from the creeks that morning, so I am extremely picky about my crabcakes! Of the two places in Disney that I've eaten crabcakes, I actually preferred those from Rainforest Cafe over Flying Fish. The ones from Flying Fish had too much breading for me and were a little too spicy--I could hardly taste the crab. The crabcakes from RC were not bad; they had some lump meat in them and not too much breading, but they didn't taste as fresh as I'd like.

If anyone is near Alexandria, VA, the best crabcakes I've ever had in my life (and, trust me, I've eaten my share!) are at The Warehouse on King Street in Old Towne, Alexandria.

I'm sorry but I couldn't let this go... :rotfl2: I needed a good giggle today, so thank you very much! :thumbsup2

BTW - I had the same crabcake at Flying Fish that Shovan posted a picture of and I totally endorse her comments - that baby was chock full of crabby goodness. I cannot, however, compare it with anything from Maryland.

Well, I'm from New Orleans, so we do like our crab a bit spicy!

oybolshoi, We can always count on you for a good giggle! Thanks for having my back on this one!:lmao: You know, I'm with Emeril on this, if you fry it or put butter on it, it has to be good!

And if we keep up this discussion sooner or later we're going to end up with a debate on Old Bay vs Zatarain's or Maryland Blue Crab vs Gulf of Mexico Blue Crab!!!

Well, I didn't know this topic would be so controversial! Marylanders against the world! Since the opinions vary a lot, I'll give it a try, probably at Captain Jack, since the appetizer choice is pretty limited there anyway. I'm comforted by the fact that no one said that it tasted awful per see, just not what they expected/cared for. I'll keep in mind that it isn't the "REAL" thing... and try it out on my next trip in Maryland.

well - Ive never had maryland crab cakes - but Kona have been my all time favorite so far

Heehee, now you've got it :rotfl: Hey, Maryland might not be famous for much, but we do know our crabs (and crabcakes) :rotfl:

As a person born and raised in Maryland I think there are 2 big problems with the crabcakes at WDW.

1) No Old Bay!

2) They don't use Blue Crabs.

I had the crabcake at Flying Fish and while it tasted reasonably good as food it wasn't a real Maryland Crabcake. I'm not sure what type of crab they used but I suspect it was dungeness. But in it's defense it didn't say Maryland Crabcake on the menu.

E.T.A.

I checked the menu and the Flying Fish is a Peeky Toe crab which is a Rock Crab not lump Blue Crab. There's a big difference.

You people sure know your crab! I usually have snow crab, because it's what is fished in eastern Canada, but I really wonder about the taste difference between all the different sorts. Guess I'll have to make a crab taste trip someday, going down the east coast from north to south!! (However DBF doesn't like crab, so he'll be hard to convince!)

Pizza and crabcakes are two things that Disney doesn't do very well. :)

A bit off of the subject - but, if you like Old Bay, try it on corn on the cob with butter!

While I find that blasphemous :rotfl: , I do understand the sentiment. All this talk about "real" pizza which to me means thin, tasteless crust and watery sauce- I haven't tasted a better pizza out there than Pizza Hut! Yum! And regarding Disney Pizza, Toy Story Pizza Planet is right up my alley. :)

Also, comparing claw meat to the back fin stuff is like comparing ground beef to filet mignon. I'd barely call a claw meat sandwich a "real" crabcake.

And, I also have to add that I've had some horrendous crab cakes in MD as well. We were stupid enough to try the $4 at the Ren Fest....it just tasted like fried filler. Real MD crabcakes are from places like G&M, McCormick and Schmick's, and other higher end restaurants. The Baltimore Surf and Turf at Ruth Chris is amazing! There are certainly some exceptions, but I'd be leary of anything that was less than $20.

It's hard to find a place for good steamed crabs these days where the crabs are only steamed with Old Bay. A lot of places are using the Old Bay along with this nasty, almost rock salt.

Add one more vote for LTT @ lunch! That was one of the best, if not the best crab cake that I have ever eaten. It was so good that a lunch ADR for LTT was a must do for this trip! Maggie
