CR update - photos added

We spent some time at the CR today and I did take some photos. I'm having trouble uploading the photos (may need to wait until we get home to do that), but wanted to post an update to the info/photos from donmil723 from last week. ( http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1353971 )

The section of the old North wing that was being torn down in those photos is now completely down and they are now filling the land freed up from that demo - BUT - no other structural demolition is underway at this time. The other sections of that area have not been touched and still have roofing and walls intact. The photos taken today show this pretty clearly.

There is some advancement in front of the North Wing - where there has been a large hole in the old parking lot now with plumbing (probably drainage) installed in the opening.

The tennis courts are gone and there are large sand piles in their place at this time.

We also visited the SSR Sales Center this afternoon and picked up point charts as well as a finance chart for AKV. Nothing new - everything is consistent with what has already been reported by Caskbill recently.

Nothing official yet regarding AKV models - but expectations are that they will be available in the old "Cinema" building within 60 days - possibly sooner.

On another note - the assault charges against Tigger have been dismissed by the DA here in Orlando and the CM has been reinstated. The family expressed surprise and disappointment according to the 11:00 News tonite.

However, I just don't get why they at least can't release AKV room floorplans? Don't tell me they don't have the floorplans figured out by now.

sounds like they make leave some of the older building. like someone else here suggested - so they could build that close to the water.

can they make this part strong enough to accept 16 stories????

That is great to hear! I am glad someone finally stood up for what they knew was right and did something about it. I am also glad that the family will actually be in debt from paying for their lawyer seeing as they got no money from this. I hope Tigger is feeling great again as he brings joy to peoples' "World!"

Not yet. They do not yet know when those will be available - I'd expect them at least by the time the models open and don't understand the lack of such information at this time.

Excuse this very stupid question, but what do you mean by the "Cinema?"

There was a "cinema" used at the resort when it was still DI. It was used for some of the educational programs and also for showing first-run Disney films. We attended a Valentine's program there several years ago titled "Mickey Loves Minnie". It included a lecture by a member of the animation staff who described the Mickey and Minnie's relationship through the use of vintage cartoon footage. It was a delightful evening.

That building is presently being converted to house AKV model villas to enhance the Preview Center Tours. Models should be ready within 60 days - but expectations are pointing toward something possibly by the end of March.

The Cinema building is the one closest to the Sales Center along the main street thru the resort. It is also the closest building to the Congress Park area.

I agree it will be interesting to see if Disney does leave up part of an exisiting North Wing wall in order to "grandfather" a new building in.

I think they could make it strong enough to support 16 stories.
Most likely they would need to reinforce the old foundation but I would imagine the technology is there. It might be quite expensive but doable.

I'll update doc's post since I went by the Contemporary today.

The next section of the north wing is definitely coming down. This is the section that is perpendicular to the lake, and was a connector wing between the 'U' shaped wing in the front and the now demolished lake front wing.

I'd say it's probably about 20-25% down.

About 1/3 of the roof is gone, a lot of the north side walls (the side away from the Contemporary tower) are gone, and a little of the south side walls are gone.

Just back from dinner at CA Grille. I went out on the observation deck and took some more photos.

As dvc John noted, the next section is actively under demolition.

The North Wing was shaped like a wine glass with the base towards the lake and the bowl towards MK. The base was the first section torn down and as of tonite the stem is about 1/3 gone - leaving only the two sections facing MK intact.

I took some more photos and will try to get them posted when we return home (tomorrow ).

We got another 4" of snow today at home (NOT at WDW!) and now have 23" on the ground since we left 10 days ago!
