How come the Contemporary is so pricey for the week after Spring Break next year. WE were going to stay there because we did the Poly this year, but when I did the pricing it was a lot more than the Poly for the same about of days. Does anyone know why? I thought it was suppose to be cheaper. Could it be the lack of rooms because of the construction?

hmmm, was it possibly club level at CR and standard at the Poly. Because yes, generally Contemporary is less than the Poly. :confused3

You've left out a good deal of information that would help us to figure out why prices seem expensive at the Contemporary such as the actual dates you want to travel, what sort of room you are pricing, how many are in your party, etc. Some general reasons that could account for the pricing are:
  1. Convention resort - regular rooms could be booked for an event during your travel dates
  2. "spring break" encompasses approximately 9 weeks depending on where you are from...just because it is the week after your spring break doesn't mean your travel dates don't fall smack dab in the middle of the spring break season.
  3. Only the garden wing rooms are less expensive than the Polynesian resort. Due to the location, tower rooms at the Contemporary resort tend to be more expensive than Garden View at the Polynesian.
  4. demolition of the north wing building has cut the number of wing building rooms in half so that will impact the availability of the lower priced rooms.

This would be for the week after Easter in 2008. Maybe all the cheaper rooms are gone, because I checked the website and the only availability that came up were the tower rooms. Could the Contemporary be booked already for next April except for the tower rooms or should I try calling and see if anything cheaper is available?

Not enough info. Isn't Magic season starting around that time which would mean higher rates, certainly not higher than poly? :confused3

Certainly try calling - more rooms may be in the inventory when you call, or keep checking online as well. Tower rooms are definitely more expensive than garden rooms at the Poly. The wing rooms may be sold out/blocked out due to conventions - or plain booked due to the time of year.

My husband has a convention on March 30-April 2 at the CR. Maybe that is the problem....

I'm not sure who is sponsoring the convention. My DH is an asst director at a Hospital associated with a major university and he doesn't always explain everything in detail to me this far ahead. (He told me the program wouldn't come out with the course offerings until January, so he would talk with me then and make a decision whether he was going. I told him he was going with me regardless!)

We wanted to book March 26 through April 5 at the CR. But nothing is available. Well, at least nothing price wise. We stayed at the Poly last year and loved it, but wanted to do something a little cheaper this year and still be on the monorail so that only left the Contemporary, so now that is out and I am bumming because I don't know where to stay.

We were going to do a split stay, but I worry about the hassle. Now, I am all confused. Our biggest factor in choosing is the transportation to the parks.

If you're serious about doing a split stay, then I would recommend doing the split between POP and the Contemporary (if your heart's still in the CR). We just did that split and it worked out fine. To be honest, the POP has GREAT transportation to/from the parks and we NEVER had a long wait - perhaps 7 minutes was the longest. Plus, the POP's mousekeeping was far superior over the CR's. I wasn't too jazzed about the CR this year - room wasn't cleaned very well by the mousekeeping staff - even AFTER I cleaned up after the kids - dust and grime all over the place. The POP was sparkling clean. And changing hotels is a snap - just call the front desk and arrange for baggage delivery to your next hotel and they take care of EVERYthing. All you have to do is show up. Next time we go we're going to be staying at the POP for the duration. New hotel of choice.

Did you do the dining plan with your split stay. I thought maybe I could do 6 nights at the Contemporary, get a 10 day park hopper, the dining plan for thoes 6 nights and then over to Pop for a room only - no dining plan and use the remainder of the 10 day park hopper. Is that workable?

We did 6 days without a DDP and 4 with the free DDP at the end of our vacation. The group we traveled with enjoy sit down dinners so they were a bit on the expensive side, but other than that we had no problems expense-wise without the DDP but were we happy to see the plan kick in :lmao: . I don't see why you couldn't do your split stay with room only. I was the nerd who just HAD to take the complicated route and book each stay individually - boy did I ever learn a lesson!!! Fortunately we still had a great time.

As to why the Contemporary pricey after spring break, maybe in their view spring break happens around a different time compared to when you're spring break is. I may not be from the United States but I do know schools have their spring break at different times and WDW considers the week you're going to be spring break for Orlando. I don't think the high price is because there are no more rooms in the North Garden Wing, because it would be un fair for WDW to raise the price because of it.

The week you want to go is still peak season and is still spring break for many. Some schools don't start their spring break until the Friday before Easter and have the entire week after Easter off. Ours is that way this year. That is still peak, very busy, and I imagine there are not alot of standard rooms left at this point. People book their spring break early.

In GA our Spring Break falls the first week in April from April 5-13, which will be after Easter next year. Lots of schools don't necessarily have it over Easter. Luckily this takes us out of Peak season for once.
