Hi Everyone! This is my first post and I hope to get some help from all of you.
We have a reservation for 5 nights in Feb at CR - garden room (I was told standard rooms & tower rooms were unavail). I'm getting worried from reading other comments that the garden rooms may not be very nice and they will be far from the monorail. We chose the CR because the rates were cheaper than the other deluxe hotels, and this will be our first trip with our little ones, ages 3 and 1. Should I request a certain wing or floor? It is sounding like a first floor garden room in the north wing would be the closest to everything. I was also asked if I wanted a garden and water wing or a marina or lake view....I have no idea!! I'd rather be closer to the monorail than the pool. Also, does anyone know the status of the remodeling? Are any of the garden wings completed? Thanks to all who can help me!!
I've been to WDW 6 times before and I can't wait for my first trip with my own kids!!!

They are currently working on renovating the wings of the CR and when they are finished, I think they will look awesome. We stayed in a wing room almost ten years ago and then again in December 2004. The wings are a "distance" from the main building, but not really that far. I requested and got in the North Wing. We wanted to be closer to the bus stop and walkway to Magic Kingdom and the north wing is closer. We also had a "water view", and were very close to the tennis/racquet ball courts.
The rooms at CR are the largest on property, I think. The day bed is the size of a twin bed (as it is at the Poly), so that is nice, too. Yes, the colors and furniture is a bit "jetson-like" in my opinion, but I didn't mind....and once the renovating is down, it will be awesome. You can request a location, but are not guaranteed, off course...and some areas of the wings are closer to the main building than others. I will see if I can locate the links I used to figure out what area would be best for us and share.

To kind of put the distance in perspective, these wing buildings are NOT like the distance you would typically walk to the main building from say a moderate or value resort (maybe the preferred buildings at the values would be a good comparison). The wings are actually attached to the main building by a small covered walkway. If you're towards the opposite end from the main building, you'd have to walk down a couple of pretty long hallways is all. If I had young children, I would request first floor, and that way you would get a patio with the two chairs and table, and not have to deal with the stairs/elevators, and if you got the request of north wing marina view, your room would face the playground area as well, so you could watch your kids from your patio while they play on the playground equipment if they're old enough for that sort of thing. Hope this helps.

Agreed. The distance between the wing rooms and the tower is so exaggerated on this board. Even the farthest room is a couple of minutes walk to the tower; and the farthest rooms overlook Bay Lake, which is an added advantage.

I love those rooms that look directly out on the lake, those are some of the prettiest view rooms available at Disney- no other buildings really in view, just the lake and trees across the lake, and steps to the water, with beach in some areas. For a quiet, pretty view, those are the rooms, hehe.

Yup! On our last trip we were lucky to get a Bay Lake view. I enjoyed my coffee on the patio, watching the fog on the lake. At night I'd drink my nightcap as the boat traffic b/w the MK and WL skittered across the lake.

How would you compare it to the distance from Tahiti to GCH at the Poly? Longer or shorter?

Oh, a MUCH shorter distance.

The South Garden Wing is closed for refurbishments. A "garden" view means a view of the pool, common areas, or Bay Lake.

I sort of need to disagree with the other posters, although this is tempered by the fact that I have reservations at the contemporary for our next visit and we like the hotel. But, the walk from the monorail station to the wing rooms, while not long in distance, may seem very long after a day at the parks, when you and your kids are tired. We stayed there a few years ago and will be back next April and I love the resort and all its advantages. BUT, depending upon where your room is in the wings, it can seem like a long way to the main building. The north wing is closer to the walkway to the MK. Our room was on the first floor, near the tennis courts and had a view of the lake. We could sit on the patio and watch the boat show at night. I would request a room in that wing and if you want to be close to the main building, ask for a room looking towards the playground

They are both North and South, and I believe there are 3 floors in each wing.
