how do you tell how hot your processor is? i know mine used to overheat a bit, but the problem's passed (or at least i think it has). is there a way for me to check the temperature?

I guess if you don't hear the whirring fan noise you're in trouble...:jester:

You should be able to check it in the bios. It isn't always that accurate though (usually too low though due to placement of themometer). A way to know you are too hot though is if your computer is beeping at you... then you know something is too warm in there ;) You could be geeky like some of us and get a set up that has the temp display on the outside of the case as well :teeth: (no I don't have it on mine, but one of the computers in our home does)

My CPU at home has a program that monitors the CPU temp and will actually display a gauge in the System Tray. If the temp gets too high, it will shut the machine down.

The only time it ever came close to shutting down is when I was running SETI. Man, does that thrash your system - my CPU consistently ran 20 degrees hotter than normal. I only run it at work now. :):)

Now who's could that be :teeth:

And it's computer geek not computer dork please. There is a big difference.

I was surprised to find out that there is more than one fan in there. When one of our fans stopped working, I kept getting the blue screen of death. It took us quite a while to figure out what was wrong, but it was all due to that little $10 fan.

hehe yep. There's the northbridge fan, the CPU fan, the vid card fan, the power supply fan, and occasionally there are two or more fans in the case just circulating the air.
