My husband sleeps with a C-pap machine. If any one else out there brought one to WDW, did you pack it in your regular luggage of carry it one the plane? I hat to have it take up a carry on, but would also hate for it to be damaged.$$$$$$ Let me know your experiences.
Thanks.

When this has come up before, people have posted that they carried it on.
The airline websites all say not to pack medical equipment in checked baggage.
Equipment related to a disability doesn't count toward your carryon allowance (it would be nice if that would make it less heavy/bulky to carry on, but at least it doesn't count toward your total).

Thank-you very Much. We will definately carry it on. Do the security people at the airport give you a hard time about it?

Hi

I have been told that it must be in your carry on luggage on the plane.

Also when I was given my CPAP machine I was told if I was going on holiday and was taking the machine I had to get a letter from my doctor?

Hope this helps
All the best
David

I certainly hope that they wouldn't give you a hard time about it, it is medically needed equipment.

TSA security knows what CPAP machines look like, and we've never had a problem flying with ours. But carrying a gallon of distilled water on board, that's gotten funny looks. Since we are getting grocery delivery at our resort this time, we'll be ordering distilled water from them to save us the looks. :teeth:

My Dh has a CPAP and has traveled many times with it. We pack it in a carry on - security has never been a problem. Actually most security personnel know what a CPAP is. We do have a letter from his physician just in case.

I travel twice a month. I always carry on my CPAP machine and would NEVER check it. While TSA knows what it is, it almost regularly gets "tested" off to the side with the swipe thing they do. But I never get a question or a hard time.

My dh carries his on and never has any problems. It is in a suitcase with all the electronic stuff-digital camera, portable DVD, laptop and CPAP. IIRC, that case always gets a manual once over after it goes through the machine.

vhoffman, we do have a small one-its about the size of 3 digital alarm clocks placed on top of each other, much smaller than his first one that we got about 5-6 years ago.

I am getting grocery delivery but they don't offer distilled water, do I have to bring my own gallon jug with me? What is distilled water anyway? Can I use tap water?

Distilled water has less minerals and is often used in things where mineral build up will be a problem.
You could ask your medical equipment supplier if using tap water for your trip would cause any problems. It might just cause some mineral build up that you will have to spend time cleaning off, but the supplier can tell you for sure.

When I travel with my CPAP - I bought a Nalgene water bottle. I only use it for my CPAP. I fill that with distilled and place it in a ziploc and rubberbands around it. Never had a problem with spillage or TSA at the airport. It fits in my CPAP travel case and if they ask I tell them. TSA knows what the CPAP is - the only questions I had about it were in Mexico years ago - I told security it was a "breathing machine" and they sent me through.

I don't buy a big bottle of distilled when I get there as I don't use the whole bottle and sometimes a drug store is not close by.

My DM uses a CPAP and we(I) always carry it on the planes. We do not take the distilled water with us. When we cruised with Disney I e-mailed them ahead of time to see if we needed to bring the water or could purchase it on the ship. They had me fill out another medical form and they provided a gallon at NO charge. We haven't gone to WDW with the machine but it might be worth asking them if distilled water is available on site. :confused3
