For our dates, we will have a choice to see narrators Steven Curtis Chapman, or Maureen McGovern. I guess I live in a cave, beause I never heard of either of them. Any input about who they are? Thanks!

Stephen Curtis Chapman is a Christian singer. If it is the same Maureen McGovern I am thinking of, she was a singer in the 1970's. I believe I am right on this info. :confused3

Not sure about the first person, but Maureen McGovern sang " There's Got To Be A Morning After " in the original Poseidon movie. Boy do I feel old now !

What is this for? Because, honestly, if I had to see either of those clowns, I think I'd just cancel.

I believe Steven Curtis Chapman has done the CP for a couple years now hasnt he? He is very popular in the Christian Music World..

I wonder why they can't get more popular performers? I mean, personally I like Maureen McGovern (she's appeared on Prairie Home Companion from time to time), but there do seem to be an awful lot of 'niche' performers doing CP. Steven Curtis Chapman may be real popular in his 'niche' of Christian easy listening, but I wouldn't know him from Adam, and there are others on the list like that as well. I'm going to be there after Christmas, so I get Marlee Matlin, who I haven't seen do ANY acting in years (maybe a guest spot here and there, but the last time I saw her was on West Wing a few years ago). I'm sure she'll be fine, but it would have been nice to have someone popular.

Why is that? I don't know anything about them...good or bad. Do tell!

Stephen Curtis Chapman has performed previously at Night of Joy during the Christian Music concerts at MK each September. It seems an obvious choice to me to have him or other Christian performers at CP given the event that is actually being celebrated - Christmas!

I'd love to see  Kirk Cameron  ! Had a big crush on him back when he was on Growing Pains.

I think I will try to get one of the nights he is narrating. Sounds like he would be good. Merry Christmas! (NOT Happy Holiday!) :yay: :cheer2: :cool1:

Bitter, are you? I'm not familiar with Maureen McGovern, but I've been a fan of SCC for many years..."clown" is hardly the word that desribes him if you knew even half the work he does to help people around the world....
In fact, if it wasn't for an organization he founded with his wife, DH & I wouldn't have all the funds we do for our adoption process.
But honestly, the fact you don't even know what this is for shows that you don't even know what you're talking about. Maybe you should learn about the event before deciding that their choices for narrators are wrong. :confused3

And there are mainstream people on the list that people in their "niche" only know. I just like how Disney isn't saying "we're only going to get A list actors here...." or whathaveyou...they're appealing to all groups of people. And while the guest narrator does play a key role in the event, the event ultimately does not revolve around the guest narrator. I've yet to see a thread on here where a person says "Ugh, I can't believe so-and-so is narrating...I refuse to ever see CP!!" Well, except for the lovely comment referring to people he doesn't know as clowns....

We saw Stephen Curtis Chapman narrate in 2003...he was very good! :thumbsup2

Three years ago, my family planned our CP so we would be there when SCC was performing. Knowing SCC not only believes the story he was reading (the birth of Christ) but that it has shaped his life, brought extra meaning to our family. We took my parents on the trip with us, and my mother still talks about CP.

I hope that you do experience CP. No matter who the reader is that evening the words and music are a very moving experience.

Have a great time planning and an even better time there.

And Blessed Be to you. Enjoy the season! :)

We got to see Phylicia Rashad, she was absolutely phenominal. such a gorgeous speaking voice.

I know, I was thinking I was going to book CP a few days before, but now I'm going to book it when he's the narrator.

While I have no problem with the people Disney hires for these events, I think it's less a statement on their part and more, "We refuse to pay enough to attract A list actors." Which is fine with me, but I just don't think they're doing it out of some kind of idealism. ;)

What kind of A list actor do you think would work. One that cheets on his wife, does drugs. How about one that is in bars all night long. Not to many out there I would want to be telling the Christmas Story. I think the people Disney has are great. Stephen Curtis Chapman does a great job. Maybe you should just go and appreciate whom ever it is. The show is amazing. Can you imagine Disney having to pay some A list actor all kinds of money, those ticket prices would go up even more.

He's narrating the night we are planning on attending! Our DD and Niece, both 17, are tickled pink! Suits me, too.

I'm hoping that either Steven Curtis Chapman or Kirk Cameron narrates the nights we go to Epcot. But at this point, I'll take whoever is narrating the day of our Candlelight Processional Dinner Package... which I hope will be up for advanced reservations soon!
