So I know the buses take you to work, but where else do the buses run? I've heard that they take you to wal-mart and a couple other places, is that true?

I had my car down there, but the busses do take you to work (ie: dtd all 4 parks and 2 water parks as well as all of the resorts), walmart, publix, crossroads (bdubs, fridays, perkins, taco bell, a hair cut place, etc)... ummm i can't think of all the other places, but i think there might be a few others. :goodvibes

I've heard nightmares about them though haha. If you can I hiiiiiighly recommend bringing a car!!

i've really been debating. driving from cali to florida is so intense though! i wouldn't have enough time between my last final for school and my arrival date :(

yea I had my car when I was there as well but my roomies had to take the busses at time I think once a week they ran to the FL mall and then every so often went to the beach (I think like 3 times my whole program). but other wise yea its work and Wal-Mart and publix (which is the grocery store there, I didn't know that till I went there we don't have them here)

know wherever you are going to have to leave like an hour early or you'll be late! also long as you keep that in mind you should be ok

having a car really is ideal but you don't want to be late to your first day!
goodluck!

There is an outlet near The Commons apartments, so you can just take the bus to The Commons and walk 5 minutes to the outlet, which is awesome BTW.

Since unfortunatley they are yet to build a bridge between Australia and the US I haven't got my car, and I'm managing perfectly fine. It's really not neccessary to have a car here, and I'll be honest and say I have no idea why people say the highly reccomend having one. Waste of money and bad for the environment when there are free buses to take you to work and to the grocery store, and cheap local buses to take you everywhere else.

cuz I can go whereever I want when I want, gas there isn't so bad and its falt, I don't have to carry lots of bags all threw the complex and I can get out of bed with a 1/2 till I check in at Epcot and I'm not late. that would be why having a car is ideal. I'm not a morning person lol

I've never heard anyone use laziness as an excuse for adding to the world's environmental problems, but okay.
Michelle you will definitely be fine, the busses are really regular, and I've met most of the people I'm friends with on the bus, it's a good chance to socialise.
The actually suggest you catch the bus to work rather than drive anyway.

How beneficial having a car during your program will be depends on how much you want to adventure beyond Orlando and what your schedule is like. Buses can only take you so far. If you're interested in exploring all the things Florida has to offer outside of Orlando you will need a car. Also, the buses get swamped at closing. If you are regularly scheduled to close, watching several busloads of your fellow CPs go by while you wait every night will get old pretty fast. Having a car to get you home by 1am instead of 2-3am after an 8+ hour shift is more than a little convenient. If you have no problem sticking to the Orlando area and happen to not be scheduled to close a lot, the benefits are somewhat less justifiable. Still, you have already bought the car and you will still have to make the insurance payments every month whether you drive it or not. Basically, if you can bring your car you should. Then you can use the bus when convenient and the car when it isn't.

On a side note: Eco-Nazis (Err.. I mean environmentalists) should focus there efforts on the companies that produce inefficient products, not the consumers who can only buy what is available. Instead of ripping on people for living the way they please, they should work to help develop new products that will let people live the way they want more efficiently. People do not have to drastically change their lifestyle to help the environment. We simply apply newer technology to our current lifestyle. You didn't stop using your lamp because it was using up 100w of electric energy. You bought a new bulb for it that produces the same amount of light with 1/5 the energy.

Didn't mean to start an argument. I'm sure I'll be good with the busses. I can relate to both sides of the debate. Yes, it's convenient to have a car but the busses will get you where you need to go for cheaper. Thank you to all of you for helping me out. No matter what, I know I'm going to have a great experience down in Fl! :)

Can you get buy without a car? absolutely.

Can you make friends w/ people with cars and get them to drive you places? You bet!

Should you help them and chip in for gas? uhhh yeah. I felt used more than once down there with my car. Just sayin'... it's always nice to be nice to the nice. :goodvibes

I've also heard about working the parks at close and waiting foreevvvvver to get on a bus to the apartments. Something that frequently happened to my friends and I was back to backs. I'm not sure EXACTLY how it goes but it's something like legally you just have to have 8 hours in between your shifts. meaning... you can be scheduled until 2 am and then have to be back on stage at 10 am. so ... say you get off at 2 am... and you don't get on a cp bus until 3 or 330... and then you don't get to your apartment until 4 or 430... and by the time you get to bed it could be 5 or 530... take into consideration time for showering, eating, anything else you have to do before work and sleep is minimum... then you have to make sure to catch a bus extra early so you can get to work on time.

That's one of the biggest complaints I heard about the CP. Back to backs aren't THAT common, but they do happen. If you don't have a car down there, just make very good use of the time you do have and get as much sleep as possible! You'll need that energy to make those magical moments :goodvibes

I also agree about the person that said having your own car is beneficial if you want to explore. I went to downtown Orlando a few times, to the beach a few times, universal a handful of times... sure i could have called a taxi or took a city bus, but it's just more convenient for me personally to be able to go when i wanted and not have to work on a schedule of someone else. It also made grocery shopping a lotttt easier too than having to lug all these bags from security to where ever my apartment was and then fumble for my ID to show the guards and fumble to find my key to my apartment and blah lol.

But like I said before, it is definitely do-able with out a car. LOTS of people don't have them and if you don't bring it, and if you ask people for rides, please please please, make sure to thank them somehow. You don't have to everytime, but I got SO sick of people just asking me to hang out because they needed a ride somewhere. Make sure to show them you appreciate it :goodvibes

You CAN get by without a car.
Where you work can make your evenings hell though. If you work at the parks till closing, catching a bus can be a tough and nauseating experience.
You can always catch a ride with someone home, hopefully.
If you have the capability to bring a car, DO IT! You'll regret it if you don't.

If you don't have the capability to bring your own car, you'll get by.

Yeah... buses in the late hours at MK will make you cry. Fortunately for me, I worked at DAK, and I had the most seniority out of all the CPs at my attraction, so I got off earlier than most others. But the buses weren't absolutely awful, I kind of liked them, and I found ways to circumvent how long they took to get places (i.e. instead of waiting for the bus which didn't come for another 35 minutes, took the bus that was leaving at that time and then took a resort bus once I was on property.).

I agree with everyone else. Bring your car if you can, but if you are just going down to work and want to save the money on gas/getting your car to Orlando, leave it at home.

I brought mine since it was already at school (3 hours away) so it was easy for me. However, I probably would have brought it anyway. Sure, I did go through gas, but when I worked until midnight and 1:30 in the morning, it was welcome. My other CP friends wouldn't get home until 2:30/3:00 in the morning if they had the latest shift. Then you have to wake up and leave for work around 2:00 the next afternoon. Not much time for any sanity!

Also, if you are over 21, it's nice to be able to meet up with friends after work, whether that is at apartments or bars. Without a car, it's hard to do that.

Heyy!!! Does the buses take you to any banks? I use regions. how does that all work.. with getting paid and what if i need to go to the bank.. do the buses take you places like that? Any other info will be appreciated :) thanks

they incurage you to use the disney bank whcih is by the MK parking lot.

you can get paid direct deposit which I recomend! Otherwise unless you bank is where the bus is going they don't make extra trips to banks. Like I said, they like you to use the disney bank which you can get to right at MK.

So if I have regions should i switch right to the disney bank? or how does that work? ddo they do direct deposit to banks other then their disney bank?

Yeah, you can get direct deposit at your hometown bank. There's really not much of a reason to switch banks unless you use the ATM/cash a lot.
