Hi everyone, I am filling out the Role Checklist and some of the areas really interest me. For those that have done any of these areas, can you please tell me more about where you were, what you did, how you liked it, and if you would do it again?

My first CP was in merchandise. I mostly worked in Fantasyland, but also spent 2 weeks each in Liberty Square and Adventureland and 1 day on Main Street (so altogether, I wore 6 different merchandise costumes during my CP). I just about always closed. This meant I started somewhere around 3-5pm, and worked til park close (which could be anywhere from 10pm til 3am- darn EMH). I mostly worked the register or assisted on the shop floor, but I also did stock stocking once in awhile.

I worked merchandise, but I've since heard that my "position" is now something that you have to individually apply for. (Yeah, it sounds weird to me too.)

I have a strong feeling I'm going to get merchandise considering my retail background, she (my interviewer) did however seem to like that I was very comfortable memorizing a script for attractions.

Wow... been a while since I posted here but maybe I'll have some advice to offer now I did a college program at Disney World haha...

I worked in merchandise and I was in Epcot at the front of the park. I worked in three different locations - Pin Central, Club Cool and Art of Disney. Occasionally Test Track.

I enjoyed merchandise but like everything it had its bad times. The most difficult thing I found was getting hours. While my friends at Magic Kingdom were working to the extreme, Epcot as a general rule seems to struggle to give people more than about 32 hours.

The nice thing with merchandise is though that it is probably the easiest role to pick up shifts. So if you had a dream of working in all the parks you are more likely to be able to do it in merchandise. Operations on the other hand... the training is very specific so it's unlikely you'd be able to work any where else.

The best advice I'd give though is not to tick too many options. At the end of the day they will put you where they most need you. Many of my friends who put down five/six choices got one of their last.

Hospitality.

Best role I could have asked for on the CP.

What makes you say this? This is one of my choices but I'm not too sure on what exactly experience is like working there. I never read or hear about too many people talking about this position.

On topic of hospitality - if we choose this role can we request a resort to work in? I've been going to the GF for years on vacation and I know that place like the back of my hand. If I got hospitality, it would literally be my dream to work there.

You can request it during your interview (in fact, explain it like you just did here). However, there is no guarantees. But it may help.

I was a Vacation Planner in Spring 2008. It generally entails selling tickets to the guests, and assisting them with questions that they may have regarding what is offered at each park. If you would like to know anything more, send me an IM or PM!

I ran across the thread while scrolling on the main page...while it has been a while since my CP, I thought I would offer my experience.

My first CP was on MainSt, merchandising. The most AMAZING job I have ever had. I worked in the markethouse...a small store that never got too crazy and I had a lot of guest interaction.

My second CP was Attractions at MGM...The Great Movie Ride. Also amazing, but not as much interaction as I was on a show most of the time. Still an amazing experience...just in a different way.

Good luck!!

What do you mean?

I was part of the BBB's opening team, but from how someone else phrased it, they made it sound like it's not part of the normal merchandising role, and that you now have to apply for that alone as one of your options.

I spent a brief amount of time working PT in merch, it was my first job at WDW and I transfered as soon as I was eligible. It is not a bad job at all but for me it was just boring, my locations were slow so I was always doing circles around the shop trying to look busy. Merch is the best for picking up extra hours though, the training carries over to every gift shop in all the parks and the resorts, so that is nice. If you get offered attractions I would suggest that instead, its harder to pick up extra hours but the work is so much more exciting. You are always busy and the guests and a ton of fun.

The majority of my roommates during CP worked QSFB and had no problems getting enough hours, or getting more if they wanted it. Though I was told that QSFB at the resorts, or carts during the summer, are no fun at all.

Yes, BBB is hired as a separate role now.

Yeah, I knew that they were updating the CP video because Kamie got to be in it. ^_^ But I didn't know that it was going to be change into it's own role. I feel that it was a smart decision as BBB isn't really like any other merchandising position, and you can't really work for any other area other than BBB if you do get it as we never received cash register training.

I worked Main Entrance Operations at AK for my college program. I was a Park Greeter (Turnstiles). It was fun, but turnstiles got really repetitive really quickly ("put your ticket in the slot, now squeeze your fingers together, there you go, have a wild day")

On the role checklist, it says that you have to "acheive monthly sales goals and maintain minimum sales requirements." What kinds of goals do you have to meet? Are they hard to attain? Is there a lot of pressure to meet the goals?

Anyone done transportation?

That's more or less the same for any Sales/Cashier position across the parks. It's generally very easy, given the number of guests and the high cost of nearly everything.

There's very little pressure to obtain the goals, from my experience, as long as you work hard and don't slack off, your management will appreciate that.

Actually there is a little bit more to it for VP's than simply meeting quotas. Based on your performance relative to sales goals, you can be eligible for some incentives.
