I know this is a little early, but I was wondering how much room Disney reserves for people who need the sign language interpreter for CP. Is there any hope of getting in the section without a Dinner Package? While my sign is not yet fluent, I miss a lot of what is said any time there is background noise or when it is in a large auditorium... basically if I am not looking at the person's face, and using a little lip reading to figure it out, I miss things.

So I watch the interpreters pretty much any time there is that option. I was amazing how much I was missing on Jungle Cruise the first time I saw it interpreted!

I am moving to Orlando next week, so I will be local and can get to a standby line early. I am not locked into any particular show or performance. I just wanted to know if there was a chance of me sitting in that section without paying for a dinner package.

I use a wheelchair, but I can transfer to a regular bench seat. I think there is only one or two wheelchair spots in that section, and I don't want to take it from someone who cannot transfer...

TIA

1) They don't.
2) Certain CM's have a tag on their name badge that signifies they "sign".
3) This is just like a country flag that denotes spoken languages in addition to English.
4) You need to ask for an interpreter at the podium.
. . . the eatery will contact Guest Services and see who might be available
. . . like ANY interpreter, they are on a first-come-first-service basis

I think OP is asking about the Candlelight Processional, not dining. I believe I have read certain performances have a sign language interpreter, but I don't know details. Hopefully someone who has attended and utilized that accommodation will respond. Otherwise a call to WDW may help.

How exciting to be moving close!

So sorry! I meant to spell it out somewhere in the post, and apparently got distracted somewhere along the way.

Yes, I meant Candlelight Processional. I do okay with most conversation with individuals, but I have problems with a lot of sound systems or places where things echo. I still don't know if it is my ears or my brain, but either way, I miss a lot. I use subtitles and captioning boxes in movie theatres, always use CC on TV at home, and I end up missing a lot in public. Then I started learning sign, and realized just how much I was missing when I went to see the parade interpreted at Disney. It was awesome, and now I watch interpreters whenever they are available.

Thanks!

This is the Disney website information for sign language interpretation for special events. I'd suggest contacting them for specific information. This is a general WDW Information number, but people have posted in the past that you will get transferred to a more specific number for assistance.

To request performance schedule confirmation or to request sign language interpretation at a specific special event or show, please call Walt Disney World Resort Information:
You will want to find out if all or just some presentations have interpretation,
They can't have ADA assistance only for people who have done the dinner package, but space may be limited.

Celebrity Narrators
Each night, a celebrity narrator tells the biblical tale of a savior born to a virgin in Bethlehem. Gorgeous choral pieces performed by an orchestra and various choirs are interwoven with the narration, inspiring the audience with songs of hope and joy.
This year, an exciting lineup of celebrities—including a few new faces and voices—are lending their dramatic talents to this year’s production, including:

  • Steven Curtis Chapman
    November 25 to 27, 2016
  • Neil Patrick Harris
    November 28 to December 1, 2016
  • Whoopi Goldberg
    December 2 to 3, 2016

For the hearing impaired, an American Sign Language interpreter translates the legendary account, allowing Guests of all kinds the opportunity to enjoy the event.

Shows take place 3 times per day at 5:00 PM, 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM, except on December 4, 2016 when shows take place at 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM only. Celebrity narrators, dates and other entertainment are subject to change without notice.

There is an interpreter for every show. This is from the Disney site for CP.
