first let me say if this is in my wrong board let me know and I will see if a mod will delete it, so I can move it to the correct board.

Ok I am going on my second cruise, as it says in my ticker one of our ports will be cozumel mexico.

I am looking for things to do while there. We are there from 1pm to 10pm so a long day.

No beaches, traveling with my nana who does not really enjoy water.

If there was possibly and tour and then snorkel excursion together.

I don't have to go through the cruise line and I am willing to choose an private excursion

ages traveling- 13, 24, 46, and 72.

Cruise Critic has boards devoted to the various ports of call.

Our cruise offered an excursion to Mayan ruins. We opted to do ruins in Belize instead, and did a beach day in Cozumel. One reason was that the ruins are somewhat far from tge port and we didn't have as much time in port as you will have.

Not sure how active your Nana is, but heres' what we did in Cozumel. My young adult kids took an ATV tour through the jungle. They had a ball, but they got filthy dirty doing it. DH is very disabled with lung/heart disease, so nothing real active for him. We opted to take a cruise around the harbor in a special boat that had the seating below the water line. We were able to see a lot of fish, starfish, coral, and sponges and I think the whole thing took about 1-1/2 hr.

I second cruisecritic.com, I've been to Cozumel twice.

San Miguel in Cozumel has a wonderful square with shops and restaurants, cheaper in and around the square, and more expensive on the street facing the water. You can take a taxi here, I want to say it was like $15.

Last time we were there, my DH and rented a car. You can do this yourself, once you get off the ship. I think it was Hertz. Just make sure to get the insurance. If you wait until the crowd passes getting off the ship, you can haggle a bit. I think we paid $60 inclusive for the day and another $15 for gas.

Then we drove to both Mayan ruins. One is just one building, within a tacky tourist trap area, but still fun and the other is a big town like area, that is just gorgeous. (This one cost like $12? to enter) We stopped and had a few beers on the beach on the other side of the island, stopped at a roadside stand and bought a blanket, which I use as my tablecloth. And ended back up at the square in San Miguel.

ETA there is also a great little museum in San Miguel about the history of Cozumel and Mayans. highly recommended if you like that sort of thing.

i already know about cruise critic. Not much there except for beaches and we aren't going to a beach.

I thought I could get a different outcome from here.

If your grandmother is fit enough, I highly recommend this:http://www.riosecreto.com

We did it last month and it was absolutely amazing. We travelled with my daughter, 9, and my parents, 60 and all of us said that it was the highlight of our cruise- even my mother who isn't fond of adventures.

I took a cooking class on the beach at that port. It was under a covered patio area, then after the cooking class there was an open bar and beach time. It is a good compromise if you don't want to do all beach. And there are little shops there to see if she wants to skip the beach. If your nana doesn't really like the beach, a cruise might not have been the best decision. Most ports are beaches. You said she doesn't like water but does like snorkel? Maybe there will be a boat ride she could enjoy? Does she like to shop?

That says Riviera Maya, isn't that a different stop than Cozumel? Looks awesome though.

It's near Playa del Carmen, we took a ferry from Cozumel (about 30mins) and then it was only 15 mins by bus, we booked the excursion through Disney but it can also be booked via their website.
It was so absolutely amazing, the entire family is still talking about that day.

We did this too and had a blast!

We've also done the glass bottom boat/snorkeling tour which was fun and the Amazing Race Cozumel which we really enjoyed.

When we were in Cozumel, we did an excursion to Tulum. It involves a ferry ride to Playa del Carmen and then a bus ride to the ruins, but it was well worth it.

She has been on many cruises before and loves them. Why she not choose a cruise just because she doesn't like the beach? We went to Nassau last cruise and didn't go to a beach. I'm not a big fan of beaches either to be honest and I am still going.

And no maybe my words got jumbled. She won't snorkel either. I meant like if there was a excursion where we could tour the area and go snorkeling while on the same excursion.

There was an excursion I found online, it was a glass bottom boat, which she wanted to do in Nassau and it stopped of at 3 places to snorkel. I would enjoy that and my nana could watch from the windows and take pics.

She is an older woman and I honestly don't blame her for not wanting to be in the water. The place where her time share is has like 5 pools and its been years since I seen her get in the water. Nothing wrong with that. She deserves to enjoy her vacation just like everyone else.

We did Salsa & Salsa. They teach you to make different salsa and to dance the salsa. You can not do the dance, which is what I did. I took pictures instead of the family I was on the cruise with. We had a blast and can't wait until our next cruise to do Salsa & Salsa again.

We did a snorkel and jeep tour with a stop at a small beach for about an hour that also included lunch.
There is a stingray excursion. Afterwards we took a taxi to Pablos Backyard for lunch and then shopped our way back to the ship.

Your post said she doesn't like the beach and doesn't really like water. And well, thats the majority of what a cruise is. Water and stops at the beach. Just going based on what YOU posted.

I think the glass bottom boat is a great idea. Something for everyone!

We went to this park on the eastern side that had swimming with the dolphins. They also have snorkeling and a nature walk area. It was a very nice place. They have also a swimming pool if you don't want to swim in the water. You can take showers when you are done. They also have a place to eat.

That park is Chankanaab and if you don't like beachs you won't like this, it's one big beach area. I love to go here, but we love to snorkel and lay on the beach. In 2003 my DD did the dolphin swim she loved it.
