I have searched for this but have found nothing. We have a friend that runs a very nice resort in Playa del carmen. I saw that there is a ferry from the Cozumel port to Playa. We were invited by our friend to spend the day at his resort when we are there for the cruise. Has anyone taken the ferry? it says it takes 45 minutes each way and we have land transportation from our friend that is about 15 minutes to his resort- would it be worth it to spend 4 hours at the resort- just bc I'm so scared to not make it back on the ship:eek: i would leave the resort at 3. Anyone have any input?? tyia!

Only input I have is - that ferry crossing can be quite rough at times. If anyone's susceptible to sea sickness, be sure to take you meds before boarding the ferry.

The afternoon ferries back to Cozumel can be pretty full, so I'd allow plenty of lead time for getting back.

We took a DCL excursion using the ferry, and when we came back we had priority on whatever the next ferry out was, bypassing a huge line to board.

thanks so much!!! i really didn't see any excursion that would fit for all of us in cozumel- especially since we go to mexico 4 times a year already. I think I'm going to get the patch for myself for sea sickness- hopefully that works !

Another suggestion here - if you get the patch (or whatever you get to use) give it a "dry run" at home, before you leave to check for side effects. They can be brutal for some people.

If your friend runs the resort, why not see if they can just send a boat to come pick you up?

We took the ferry when we were staying at a resort in Playa de Carmen to go to Cozumel for the day. It was really easy to navigate we just walked up and got on. I would plan to take the second to last ferry back to Cozumel just in case its full you still have one other option.

i wonder if he has a boat to come get us.... i can ask him that too, i figured it would be an easy thing to go do spend the day there and it would only cost us the price of the ferry

I second the suggestion for each person in your family to try the medication at home. We did a run-thru with Bonine a couple weeks prior to our cruise and I am so glad we did. DH and I were super sick from it: headache, lethargy and felt totally out of it for an entire 24 hrs. In the end we used ginger capsules, wrist bands and chewed the ginger gum. Your day at the resort sounds like a blast! So nice to be able to get into a LARGE refreshing pool at some point on the cruise. Sounds like you will have that!
