Looking for some talk about the excursions offered in Cozumel. Not completely thrilled with the Disney offerings, but sort of afraid to venture out on my own. I figure Disney has some responsibility of one of their "sanctioned" excursions has a problem, but if you do your own thing, you are on your own.

So... what are those of you going to Cozumel doing with your day there?

Thanks....

Cozumel is a wonderful little island that we vacation on 2-3 weeks a year. No need to be afraid to venture out on your own. The only thing I DON'T recommend is renting a car or scooter. Too many horrible accidents with scooters. If you get in a car accident, they are notorious to make you pay lost wages for the person injured. No insurance covers that and you won't be able to leave the island until all charges are paid. There are many nice beach clubs to visit. My favorite thing is to hire a taxi for the day to take you around the island. Negotiate before getting in the cab. For that matter, if you need a cab, always, always, get the price first. The East side is stunning and not to be missed. The cab driver stays with you for the 3-4 hours. We like stopping at the lighthouse and Coconuts. He can drive you all the way around and drop you off in town to do some shopping. My favorite shop is Los Cinco Soles. It is no pressure and air conditioned. A snorkeling tour on the Fury is fun but so many people are on it. I feel it is more like a cattle call. Another fun day we've had was booking the Toucan. Here is the link to it: http://www.cozumelsailing.com/tucan.html . Hope you enjoy the island like we do.

We went to xcaret last month for our excursion. This was probably the most beautiful place I've ever been to. It had it all. The underground rivers, wild life of all kinds, mayan ruins and snorkeling, swimming, pure paradise. Our lunch was some fantastic Mexican fajitas with homemade chips and salsa. My only regret was the day went by too quickly and there was so much to do.

We did the Atlantis Submarine in Cozumel. It was really neat and we really enjoyed it! Water was amazingly clear and we went 109 ft deep!

We booked a private excursion which we feel totally safe doing. The local tour operators don't want to get you to the ship late, bad for business.

If we had been all adults on this trip we would've done the Cozumel bar hop which sounds like a blast. We'll have to do that another time though because we'll have kids with us.;)

That being said, we're doing the tequila factory tour, chocolate factory tour and then heading to the east side of the island for some beach time, and lunch. On the way back we'll do a little shopping. Hopefully we'll get a chance to stop here for a grown-up libation before getting back on the ship:

Dh and my boys did the Tulum ruins. They really liked it. They did it through DCL, though, since it was so far from the ship.

Since my dd was too young for that, she and I did the Atlantis submarine. It was absolutely fantastic. It is a short taxi ride from the pier, and probably would be quite easy to do on your own. We did it through DCL since I was nervous about being on my own in Mexico, but afterwards realized I could have easily booked it on my own. Plus it's not too long, so we still had time to shop and were back on the boat for a late lunch and then enjoyed the empty pools/aquaduck while everyone else was out on their excursions still!

Sounds wonderful... sent you a PM!

We did the "Rio Secreto," or Secret River, excusion. About a two hour journey through an underground water system. Some walking, some wading, some swimming. They provided wetsuits. Fantastic tour. Of note, they ask you not to put on sunblock, makeup, creams, etc until after the tour, so that the water does not become polluted.

The secret river excursion is, indeed, absolutely wonderful.
We were three generations and everybody loved it.
It costs roughly the same doing it through DCL as booking on your own.

I am doing the ruins tour and private beach through DCL. I plan on visiting some of the markets if they are close enough to port on my own.

We did the Fury snorkel trip. A lot of it is taken up just on the boat ride. Snorkeling time seemed very short. It was a lot of fun though. If you want to try snorkeling for the first time, it's probably good.

Has anyone done the Off-road Excursion to Jade Caverns? If so how was it?

I think we are planning on doing the Fury Snorkeling trip when we go to Cozumel.

I had looked into this one but it has gotten a lot of unfavorable reviews on trip advisor, mostly due to safety things, so we are leaning more towards the jeep adventure.

What chocolate tour did you do? This sounds like something my kids would enjoy!

Hello,
We have been to Cozumel twice and did DCL excursions both times.First we did the semi-sub and it was ok.Lots of rocking and my daughter who is not prone to motion sickness was not feeling to well. We loved the Jeep excursion. They took us to Ruins,a lighthouse with such beautiful views,to the beach with a great lunch! Our guide was Jhorge, one of the best we have had yet.Had bottled water and soft drinks in a cooler so you never had to worry about the hot day!By far one of the best excursions we have been on.:thumbsup2

My plan for Cozumel is to take a taxi to Chankanaab Park for the day. Taxi back and hopefully a little port shopping depending on the time.
