Hi All! My mom and I did RCCL about 15 years ago and didn't book any excursion in Cozumel. Instead we just got off the boat and walked around had a local lunch, etc. and it was a great day...my family and I are going on the Fantasy this summer and have planned to do the same thing. Quick question as I cant easily find this information - where does the Fantasy dock? Is it right there in San Miguel or do they dock at the one that is like a 10min. cab ride south? Dumb me, didn't even realize they had the multiple docks...when my mom and I went, it was right there in town....just trying to plan ahead. Also, do cabs only take Peso's or will they take dollars as well?

Thanks in advance....

Bump, not sure how your question was missed... hope someone is able to give you some info on the Cozumel port!

When we were there 2016, the Fantasy docked at Terminal de Cruceros Punta Langosta Cozumel, in front of Hooters Cozumel, Starbucks, and Senor Frogs.

I don’t know the names of the docks, but it lets off inside a shopping mall type place and then you exit that and can walk down the street to more stores and restaurants if you like. The other dock isn’t far...I remember seeing a carnival ship there.

DCL dock at Punta Langosta which is downtown, the one that you have to go up and over the road to get out.
Royal and Carnival mainly use International Pier and Puerto Maya (and have put a lot of money into them) which is 10 min taxi or 45 min walk from downtown, but they have a lot of shops and restaurants within the terminal area.

I personally have never seen Disney dock anywhere other than Downtown, but have seen many different companies use Dowtown as well as the other two docks.

I would advise you against walking around on your own in Cozumel.

Cozumel is fine!
Just spent 6 months going there twice a week. Would regularly walk the 45 minutes to downtown and back, would wander down the backstreets to find the good food. 50% of the time I was on my own (26 year old female), on the way to meet people or heading back to work.
Did I ever feel unsafe. Nope. Not at all.
Are there a few dodgy looking people. Yup. Where is there not?

If you're worried about walking around Cozumel on your own, good luck going most places in the world.

Taxis will take US dollars. Our standard Cozumel day is to walk across the bridge and through the mall to the cab stand at street level. Taxi to Nachi Cocom for a beach day and lunch. Taxi back to the mall and maybe some light shopping before reboarding the ship. Never had a problem in 4+ visits.

I’m glad nothing has ever happened to you, but there have been many reports of drug lords kidnapping and killing American citizens. According to Forbes, more Americans are killed in Mexico than in ALL other countries combined.

Here in Texas, we here about this stuff on the news pretty frequently.

Both articles you link focus on other areas of Mexico. Specifically, they mention border towns and the states of Sinaloa, Colima, Michoacan, Guerrero and Tamaulipas. Cozumel is in Quintana Roo. Just like the US, there are states with more crime than others. While travelers should always exercise common sense, Cozumel is not on the list of dangerous states in Mexico.

Do most shops & restaurants near the port accept credit cards? TIA.

Mexico is a big country. The entire country is not unsafe.
