Anyone recently take the DCL excursion to the Cozumel beaches? Where do they take you? -- Playa de sol? How do you get there? Is it really necessary to book the beach excursion through DCL? What would you miss if you just took a taxi over to Playa del sol on your own?

Thanks

Sorry..can't help you with going over to Playa..but we went last Fall to Cozumel on our cruise. Went over to Chankanaab Park and loved it!! Not sure what you're looking for. It's a very popular place and you can just take a taxi over there. You can swim with the dolphins, snorkel, walk around the beautiful areas they have, replica of a mayan home..a great mexican restaurant outside on the beach. We had a great time there and didn't want to leave. Just an idea. You can look up the place on the internet.

From what we learned from many cruises, you can pretty much book what you want on your own and save $. Also, can go at your own leisure without waiting for lots of people.

Went to Playa San Francisco -
Taxi $13 each way
two chairs, two float, 1 umbrella $10

They have a swimming pool, shops, food, bar, etc and NO admission charge. Also sail boats, wave runners kayaks etc. for rent.

To the left you could see part of Playa Del Sol (where the cruise ship excursions take you) with their tramploline and "ice berg" in the water. You could walk there from Playa San Francisco if you wanted.

We saved way over $100 from taking DCL beach break excursion to Playa Del Sol.

If we go again we will either go to Chakanub or Xcaret. Heard great things about both of these places from people on board who went there. The biggest complaint with the DCL excursion to Xcaret was that there was not enough time there.

Our excursion was "Mayan Ruins and Playa Sol". Although we did enjoy it, I don't know that I would recommend this one. We spent a LONG time at the ruins in 90 degree heat, then boarded the bus which took us to Playa Sol. The beach itself was nice but small. (They have the area to be used by guests roped off and boaters/jet skis are just beyond the ropes) Also, almost all the beach chairs had already been taken by the time we arrived around 3:30 and a Carnival excursion was there too. We had less than an hour there, so if you go, try to get there early in the day to beat the crowds. Our tablemates visited another beach on their own and really enjoyed it, so if you can figure out the Cozumel taxi system, you can probably do this on your own.
