Hello,
We decided not to book any excursions for our 2 and 4 year olds at these ports. This being our first Disney Cruise, what are some ideas of things to do in Cozumel and Castaway Cay? Are the beaches within walking distance from the ship? Do we need to/should we take a taxi anywhere in particular and if so, are there car seats for kids? Do we board the ship again for lunch on Cozumel or should we eat there (and if so, where are recommendations)? Thank you!!

It all depends on your family and what you like. We rented a Jeep Wrangler in Cozumel and toured the Island ourselves at our leisure. Much more relaxing and fun for us!

We went here on our own over Christmas: http://www.cozumelparks.com/eng/chankanaab.cfm
It's about a 10 minute taxi ride (they have set rates, so you don't have to worry about the cost too much). They had a very nice pool for the kids to swim in, a beach to play in the sand, and lots of things to see and do. We did the dolphin encounter and also the manatee encounter, as well as the sea lion show. The only thing I would say negative about the place was the beach access area was small. They have tons and tons of nice sandy beach, but the actual waterfront area is small. There were big iguanas walking all over the place, which was cool for the kids to see. We didn't have loads of time to explore around, but it was a very nice, well kept up place that we felt very safe at.

I have been to Cozumel with an infant and a toddler. We hired a taxi but there were no carseats available. I know, I know.... We have been to Playa Mia, Paradise Beach and Chanakaabb. Of the three I would do Playa Mia with small children. If you are worried about transportation, then I would book the excursion through the cruise line. I have seen a beach that is associated with a hotel that is close to the port but the shore line is rocky and the sand area looks small. At Castaway, we just went to the family beach and played in the sand and the edge of the water.

You also asked about food. Most of the beaches are at least a 10 min taxi ride from the dock. And from the dock to the ship is a good 10 min walk, in Cozumel. We just ate lunch at the beach. At Castaway, there is a buffet lunch that is provided by the cruise line.

We just went to playa Mia a few weeks ago for the first time with our 8 and 4 year olds. I would highly recommend going there with young kids.
