was wondering about jeep tour . does everyone who books this excursion travel as a group in a caravan or what i'm thinking of doing this but can't drive a manuel transmission .. does the guide drive if needed and what about tipping? thanks,
We did this and absolutely LOVED it!
Four people ride in each Jeep. One person starts out driving, and then there is an opportunity to switch drivers so a second person in each vehicle gets a chance too. We heard that on the maiden Western cruise, automatic Geos were used. Unfortunately, for our trip on 5/25, they were all manual Jeeps. It would be nice if they could give a choice, as we are in the same boat as you...neither hubby nor I drive manual. But we paired up with a mother and daughter...the daughter was absolutely thrilled to be able to do all the driving! I had lots of fun as a passenger...the road is VERY bumpy and dusty, but it is a blast. On the way out and back, you stop at the "Pee Pee Station." You also stop at a ruin and at the beach, so be sure to bring your swimwear. They don't guarantee that you'll be able to swim, as sometimes the waves are too high. If there is a green flag, all is well. A yellow flag signifies caution, and red means that you can't go in the water. On our trip, it was yellow, and the waves were perfect for body surfing. The guides were excellent and made sure that we all had fun but remained safe. There are canopies and blankets where you can sit, and they also serve a delicious taco lunch. We tipped our guides and also have a couple of bucks to the cooks.

We were at the beach for about 45 minutes, which included lunch and swim time. It's really neat because each party has their own canopy and blankets. We wore our swimwear under our clothes, although you could probably change in the "Pee Pee Station" on the way (there are no facilities on the beach). I felt so sorry for the people who didn't realize that it was a beach trip, too, and hadn't brought their swimwear. It was hot out, and that water was SO inviting.
