Coworker never leaves his desk at work!!

Anyway, back to the man who can go 8-9 hours without getting up to walk to the restroom.....
Since he is so smart and makes so much the bosses bought him that new Homer Simpson chair that is also a toilet. So he does go everyday, but he does it next to you in his cubicle. Make sure you spy on him to see that he is not bringing in beans for his lunch. :thumbsup2

In my company many of the higher up non management types are in cubicles. The man who never uses the restroom is a $100K a year type, I suspect, because he has a PHD in Math and twenty years of experience in Statistical Analysis.

Enough with the jokes about my previous post. This is a sincere honest question. For crying out loud!
what exactly is higher up non management?

Either your higher up (management) or your not....and frankly at 100K per year most people not working on trading floor require an office if merely for status.

Perhaps this is the guy they modeled the genius in a closet on in Real Genius?

I used to have a coworker that never used the restroom at work, or any other public restroom. (I'm really not sure how she did it!) Maybe your co-worker has a public restroom phobia? :confused3

The rest I don't think is that strange. About the ONLY time I get up from my desk is to go to the restroom :rotfl: . I eat lunch at my desk, and I tend to arrive, eat lunch, eat a snack, and leave at a precise time each day. I think I am a touch obsessive-compulsive. :p I also communicate mostly through email or instant messenger, even to other people in my office (as do most of the people here).

I work for a very large company and everyone in our corporate office including VP's and Sr VP's have a cubicle.

I don't understand how anyone can go more than an hour without 'using the facilities'.

I think it is a bit scary that people can do their jobs without any personal face to face contact with their coworkers. Email has its place but what happened to just general chit chat in the office?

My coworkers and I have tried to make conversation with the Math man who never uses the restroom but all we got was a grunt or a one word reply.

Confession: I have gone all day without peeing like that. If I don't have a beverage with breakfast and if I get intellectually caught up in a project, sometimes, I don't have to go until 6 or so.

P.S. Lots of $100K+ types in cubicles @ financial services!

.

Fair enough...I was just pointing out that it is somewhat unusual not unheard of by any stretch (sort of like ageing say 10 years in a day...or having serious helicopter issues...or not knowing if most people have to clean bathrooms or not)

I'm going to go and enjoy my corner office with 6 full windows and door now...I need to be much more appreciative than I thought!!!

Perhaps your coworker never gets to leave his desk because he has to do all the work that the rest of you are shirking while you stare at him.

I'm a nurse. I can go for an 8 hour shift without using the restroom.

Although I can't say I sit at a desk all day.

My back can't take sitting all day, usually I have to get up every once in a while anyway, but if I don't have to get up, I will walk around the office just to stretch my legs and back a bit.

The bathroom thing is odd, but it must be possible because clearly he's doing it.

Then how do you know so much about him if he doesn't talk to anyone? Maybe he leaves his cubicle when you aren't there, so you miss him? Maybe you should ask him :confused3

OK. it's weird and all that, but not as weird as what I pictured when I read the title of the thread...

He never leaves his desk at work? What does he do, strap it to his back and take it home with him???

Am I the only one who thinks one is hired and paid to work, and not to chit chat around the office? Oh, wait, the math genius probably agrees with me.

 :teeth:

:rotfl2:

I don't know, but I know neither my back, my legs, nor my bladder would be able to go 8 hours w/o a break!

How is this even possible? Could you make it through an entire eight hour period without getting up to walk around- or take care of natures calling?
Yes. I have an iron bladder and can make it through my entire workday without going to the bathroom once. I go in at 7:00 am and get off at 4:30 and don't get home until 5:30-6:00. I use the bathroom in the morning before I leave and most days don't go again until I get home. My days can be so extremely busy and I can get so involved in what I do that I honestly just forget to go to the bathroom.

I can't vouch for the not moving though, as I am on my feet all day.

Me too! I rarely use the restroom at work because I just don't have to.

Maybe you don't notice when he gets up since you leave your desk every 30 minutes? :confused3

There are days that I can sit at my desk and not want to move so I can just get through the work. I will look up and its almost the end of the day. But then there are other days when I get in and just can't wait to get up and move about the department. Most days my bladder dictates the times I leave the office. But there are those days that I dont have to go at all.

Right after high school I was a nanny for two pre teen boys three days a week. They only wanted to play video games all day and their parents were fine with that. They just wanted me there in case of something. They never wanted to eat, or go anywhere. So I stayed put all day. Sat on the couch and watched soaps without moving, eating, or taking a potty break. Just sat there. So it can be done.

I rarely get up but I do sometimes to get something to drink or yes, use the bathroom. We only get 30 minute lunches so I usually just stay put and daydream for a while. I see no point in wandering around when everyone is so busy anyway. Unfortunately, I work in a VERY busy place so chit chat is minimal. :(
