Coworker Issue- LONG VENT

Wow, sounds like the model employee and just the type we are looking for. We are actually all out of psychos at the moment and need a few. You can never have too many quality drunk, pill popping, black outing, knife weilding psychopaths around you know. Oh wait, I'm thinking about some of my old girlfriends. You will never know true love until your lover stabs you with a kitchen knife. :lovestruc

...who have you been dating? :rotfl:

It's pretty obvious that the office managers and the physicians you work with are not going to do anything about your coworkers behavior. More pressure from you will not force them to do anything other than label you as the troublemaker. I think this is a clear case of your values and ethics clashing with the "corporate culture" that exists in your workplace. I would concentrate my efforts on finding a job with people that function in a manner that I can respect. The inmates are running the asylum where you currently work but the powers that be are content with that. You are not, and you need to move on to a job where the concern is for the safety of the patients and "crazy" behavior on the part of employees is not tolerated. You are not going to change them and you will be much happier in an environment where the management reflects your values. Calling the police or filing complaints about obvious problems that they are willing to ignore will only ostracize you. Good luck!

This.

I am really concerned. Gee, to have to go into work with someone like that and no support there my chest would ache. Hope she is okay. Hoping for the best that they get rid of Sue.....but then would she be whacky enough to retalliate againt these women?

So anxious to hear something. The earnings at risk, her emtionaly stress, I would absolutly look for another job, and let the employers know that she is blowing the whistle on the practice when gone on behalf of the patient safety.

There are licensing boards and the employers should worry over that then someone that is screaming melt down....
Why can't the work place be a nice place to be and share your training to those that you heal and help, instead of a place to fear harm?

OP thinking of you and sending strength to know what to do and be safe.

Hi everyone! Sorry to leave you all hanging! I was off for the last two days and updated my resume as well as sent a few off! How nervewracking! Today was my first day back and let me tell you, losing two RNS was an eye opener for one of the Dr of the practice. He emailed all of us and wants us (all of us in the office) to put all of our complaints in writing, being as specific as possible. He is trying to convince the nurses to stay, meanwhile this leaves only one nurse left and she is not happy to be stuck with Sue. I have not told him I am leaving yet, but me and my husband have decided that now is the right time to move on. I am using my vaca time and trying to schedule around Sue in the meantime. To be honest, I still get the very real feeling that they are not going to actually do anything about Sue they are just sort of trying to stop loss here. Apparently upsetting the nurses gets peoples attention, love those gals!

And for those of you who read the donutgate thread, I brought in some donuts today, knowing it would make Sue crack her nut a little more. :woohoo: I think when I finally quit a big huge donut party shall be had. As far as Sue goes, the gloves are off I think she has realized the tide has turned and I am done. She didn't come near me all day. It took me almost the entire day to type up my issues.

It really is a freeing feeling knowing that I am leaving. It really does take a LOT of stress off just knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am actually thinking of maybe going back for my Masters!

Thanks for the update. Good luck to you in your job search!

Glad that you're ok! And thanks for the update. The nurses need to unite! Like superheros, and do something about sue. Good luck on your job search and have a doughnut party! Woohoo! :wizard:

Good luck in your job search.

As far as 2 people leaving...nurses or not, I'm guessing in what sounds like a relatively small office, losing 2 workers at once can put a real damper on things.

If I was the remaining nurse I would tell my boss in no uncertain terms that someone who is mentally unbalanced as Crazy is would NOT be working under my license...period, end of discussion. As far as I am concerned, if the doctors and their wives are so concerned about protecting Crazy, then whatever she does can be done under the auspices of the doctor's licenses, so when she flips, they can take the fall for it, not me.

Years back in my area (not at the hospital where I work) a surgeon flipped out in the OR one day and actually killed the patient he was operating on (had the guy's abdomen open and started just hacking away at his insides). Later on it came to light that he had been having many "episodes" of inappropriate behavior which were swept under the rug because he was a "respected surgeon". The hospital paid dearly for that, as did many of the people who did not report the inappropriate behavior up the chain of command. It wasn't pretty.

So when all is said and done,, you might still want to call your state's medical board to let them know the situation with this woman...even if these docs fire her, she'll be out there somewhere and probably since medical is her background, she'll end up at another medical office somewhere....

 OMG! That is SUPER scary! How awful!

DH (who's company is in the HR business) says that you should report your employer for allowing this person to threaten your safety in the workplace. What they are doing is against the law (federal law).

What federal law is your husband stating was violated? I am curious and always like to keep up to date on the issues.

bump--curious about updates as well. Hope OP is doing okay and that the crazy lady hasn't done anything...well you know...crazy.

Update!

Well the 2 nurses both left weeks ago, there are agency nurses currently filling in We were told that we are not allowed to tell the new nurses any of Sues issues and if we spoke about her past we would be fired.I feel that the nurses currently working there are unaware of the risk of working with Sue.

I took some vacation time and have been working occasionally (around Sues schedule) and trying to use my vaca days up. I have FINALLY found a new position! It is totally different from what I do now, about 10K a year more than I make now and has much better benefits. I am sooooooooo nervous! The interviews were terrifying but the new job is closer to home and has great hours. I offically gave my 2 weeks notice last Monday so this will be my LAST WEEK!! The office manager had the nerve to act shocked, and when she asked me why I was leaving I told the truth. Sue threatened me and caused an extremely unpleasant work environment and nothing was done about it. I also told her that I felt the patients were unsafe.

In the meantime Sue showed up to a staff meeting on Wednesday night extremely drunk and slurring, and apparently several people smelled the alcohol coming off of her. When asked if she had been drinking she stomped around and had one of her usual tantrums, in front of the drs and the office manager this time. I am told it was very obvious she was drunk. As of Friday, Sue was put on the schedule as receptionist, and no longer working as a medical assistant, since now none of the nurses will let her work on their license since they were all present at the meeting. Fortunately I was off.

PS we are having a donut party on my last day :)

Thanks for keeping us updated. That is great news about your new job. I wish you great success. Can I send a contribution to the donut party???

It is really scary for me as a health care consumer to think of this woman working in a medical clinic. I just cannot believe the doctors allow this to go on.

Please update again after the donut party.:rotfl:

WOW!! What an update! Congratulations on your new job! I can relate - I start a new job in a week after 10 years home (well, part time work.) Your new opportunity sounds AWESOME! Enjoy the change.
