Since all us disney peeps are so creative, I'm looking for an idea. Thinking of a horse themed birthday party at a local stable for my DD 5th bday. I like unexpected invitations ( message in a bottle for pirate themed party etc) I need a good invitation idea for this horse themed party. Was thinking of writing the invites on a bandana. anyone have a better idea? I like really cool, not normal ideas.

Bandana is cute. How would you mail that?

What about something with a horseshoe? Either real ones if you want to spend that much- or cut some out.

Or you can fashion a cute card with a "lasso" made out of twine on the front -

Oriental Trading also sells cheap Cowboy hats- you could affix an invitation to the hat assuming you are not mailing these things obviously.

I love a cute invitation- I made bowling ones for dd's party using CD envelopes- the clear cutout made it look like a bowling ball- I put 3 sticker dots on the clear part to make the color showing through look like a bowling ball.

And was once invited to a luau with a lei invitation- it was written on the lei!

Google is my friend :thumbsup2

Use your imagination to set the stage for your adventurous western party. Here are a few creative invitations that you may have to hand deliver (or pay extra postage for), but no one will send regrets, that's for sure!

Create a WANTED poster as the invitation to your party! Roll it up with all of the party details on the inside, and tie it with a bandana. Use parchment colored paper and black lettering.
Really make a ringing impression with customized cowbells. Buy cowbells, paint the name of each guest on the outside and attach the party details to the ringer inside. Send or hand-deliver. Cowbells can be found at your local novelty store or discount mass merchandiser.
Hand deliver a colorful cowboy hat to your guests with all of the exciting party details folded up inside of the hat. Make sure to request that your guests come to the party wearing the invitation (the hat, not the paper).
Whichever invitation you choose to send, ask your guests to come dressed for the occasion. Of course as the host, you'll be dressed in denim (skirt or pants), fringe, cowboy boots with spurs, a western bolo tie, a sequin cowboy hat, holster or cutesy vest/skirt combo a la Dale Evans.

thanks to all, i've hit otc and will be using some swag from there. was thinking of getting those horse visors and writing bday invites on that. half invites will be mailing, half will be hand delivered. LOVE the wanted poster with the bandana and cow bell. love that. thats what im talking about.saw a wanted poster but did not take it to that level. at the local stable, it is bonafide rustic so a few decorating touches will make it my own. had an idea to make a western "town" with oversized boxes. a saloon, bank, general store sheriff ( ala Andy's room in Toy story) then the kids can paint it up while ,others arrive. for some reason my child loves playing in boxes. ( ice cream shop etc). will have horse shoes of course, and cowboy boot bean bag toss im thinking. the stable has horse rides ( not ponys!) and hayrides. and they find real horseshoes all throughout the real stables. i'm thinking of doing those horse cupcakes from the hello cupcake book. as for my dress it is red gingham, a swing dress, sun straps. love it. dd has a few jean/eyelet/bandana outfit choices. any more amazingness you can hit me with?

Really simple, but my kids used to love feeding the horses treats. We did apples and carrots, supervised of course!

If the stables say that would be ok and what kind of treats are allowed, I think the kids would really enjoy that. And take lots of pictures!

Your party ideas sound great!

Depending on where you are at and how many kids are coming, maybe have a SUPERVISED "shooting party" either with paint ball guns, bb guns or real 22s. You would need to make sure there is one to one adult supervision, this may be possible through your local state conservation department or local shooting range.

You can always get a bail of hay, plastic roping horns and rope from your local farm supply store and have the cowboys practice roping.

Call your local horse ferrior(sp), they put horse shoes on horses, maybe they can bring out a horse and make mini horse shoes for a fee.

DD's 7th birthday was a cowgirl theme. Because it was in the winter, I was limited. She did have a sweater w/ a horse applique and of course, pink cowboy boots.

Here in Springfield, we eat "horseshoes" so that is what I served. It is a piece of toast with hamburger, chicken breast, or slice of ham, etc, french fries and topped with cheese sauce. Actually, that is a ponyshoe, a horseshoe is double that. It is a mass of junk food deliciousness.

Regarding Invitations:

My daughter had a similar party, I used

* white cardstock at Wal-Mart/Michaels
* cut a piece of brown paper bag to cover the cardstock with uneven rounded edges
* burnt the edges of paper bag piece to make it look rustic
* used horse stamp (Michaels)
* separate cream colored piece of paper with party info
* natural colored all purpose rope to finish as trim

I used paper glue and mini hot glue gun

I wish I had a picture to share! :idea:
